The CRF450R is Honda’s liquid-cooled Unicam motocross four-stroke. A useful setup balances strong engine response with traction, suspension support and controls the rider can use comfortably through a full moto.
This guide covers the carbureted early bikes, successive fuel-injected generations and the redesigned 2027 model. Many service and chassis parts cross several years; others change at a single model-year break. Start with the VIN and complete model designation, then check each product’s application.
A product listed through 2026 is not automatically confirmed for 2027. The new engine and chassis make exact-year verification especially important for exhausts, ECUs, engine parts, intake components, bodywork and protection. The dedicated 2027 section below contains separately listed applications.
Check the full model name: CRF450R, CRF450RX, CRF450RWE/HRC Works Edition, CRF450R-S, CRF450X and CRF450L/RL have different equipment and applications. A shared “450” designation does not establish fitment.

The chain figures are installed lengths for stock gearing. A supplied replacement chain may be longer and need cutting to suit the bike. Use Honda’s level-check procedure after an oil change, and do not adjust the fine-wire spark-plug gap. Compare the 2026 owner’s manual and 2027 owner’s manual for the full specifications and procedures. Avoid oils labeled “Energy Conserving” or “Resource Conserving.”

Protection & Rider Contact

Suspension, Clutch & Brakes
Healthy seals, appropriate spring support, a dependable clutch and predictable brakes make the motorcycle easier to ride consistently.
Choose the spring rate that suits rider weight and pace on the 2025–2026 fork, then recheck chassis balance.
Replace leaking or worn seals before trying to correct inconsistent fork action with damping adjustments.
Renew the clutch plates and springs while retaining a serviceable original basket, inner hub and pressure plate.
Replace worn front pads with the Honda pad pair while inspecting the rotor and caliper.
Carburetion, EFI & Race Packages
The 2002–2008 CRF450R uses a carburetor. EFI arrived for 2009; the ECU and combo options below cover their own specific later applications.
Tune a healthy early CRF450R carburetor with the needles and main jets made for this application.
Use the separate kit for the final two carbureted CRF450R model years when refining fuel metering and response.
Match calibration to your exact model year and engine setup with ten programmed maps and low-, mid- and high-throttle fuel trims.
Plan the exhaust and ECU together with a titanium Factory 4.1 muffler, titanium MegaBomb header and Vortex fuel-and-ignition control.
Exhaust & Intake
The dual-exhaust, later single-exhaust and new 2027 applications need separate attention. Air-filter shape also changes by year.

Sprockets & Final Drive
Inspect the chain, sprockets, slider and guide together. Select tooth counts for your track, then confirm chain length and adjustment.
Choose the front tooth count for your riding while using the correct countershaft application.
Choose rear tooth count around the track and the front sprocket already fitted. More rear teeth shorten the gearing.
Replace a worn or damaged guide with a design that uses a replaceable wear pad and extends forward around the mounting area.

Oil Service & Cylinder Heads
Earlier engines use separate engine and transmission oil compartments. For cylinder-head work, distinguish an assembled head with valves from a bare replacement casting.
Gather Maxima MTL transmission oil, Pro Plus engine oil, a K&N filter and sealing supplies for the earlier split-compartment engine.
Includes two liters of Maxima Pro Plus 10W-40, a K&N filter and OEM sealing rings for the listed later engine.
An assembled OEM head with Kibblewhite stainless valves and springs, CNC valve-seat cutting and port-to-seat profiling for a 2007–2008 rebuild.

Race-Service Priorities
Record engine hours and service dates. A low reading on a recently fitted hour meter does not establish the total time on a used engine. Use the exact-year Honda schedule for your motorcycle.

The timed rows compare Honda’s standard-R competition schedules; they are not a service-life guarantee or a universal schedule for earlier years. Follow all torque, inspection and fluid-level procedures for the exact year.

No. Honda redesigned the engine and frame for 2027, with changes to the intake, chassis setup and stock specifications. A 2026 part needs its own confirmed 2027 application before you transfer or order it.
Do not assume it will. Check the exact manufacturer application and configuration. The Vortex and older exhaust cards in this guide retain their listed ending years; the 2027 Yoshimura system is a separate product.
The standard 2026 model uses 80/100-21 front and 120/80-19 rear. For 2027, the front remains 80/100-21 and the rear changes to 120/90-19. Earlier years and other trims need their own reference.
The standard 2026 CRF450R uses 13/49 gearing and a 114-link #520 chain. The 2027 model uses 13/51 and 116 links. A supplied replacement chain may need shortening; match it to the actual gearing and adjustment range.
Honda lists NGK SILMAR9A-9S for the standard 2026 and 2027 CRF450R, with a non-adjustable 0.80–0.90mm gap. Earlier motorcycles may use other plugs. Check your exact-year manual before substituting.

No. Identify the fork and any conversion first. The 2013–2016 air-fork era needs a different approach from coil-spring forks. Spring dimensions, rates, damping settings and oil quantities still depend on the specific fork.
The 2023–2026 Honda OEM head is a bare cylinder head without valves, despite “Assembly” in its listing title. The separate 2007–2008 Kibblewhite option is an assembled head with valves and springs. Check the included and optional parts before planning the job.
Check each product’s current availability and backorder terms before scheduling installation. The 2027 exhaust and plastics have their own listings; a product listing does not by itself establish an immediate shipping date.
Verify the model and year, request a cold start and review records for valves, piston, oil, clutch and suspension.
