I just installed the Flatland Racing skid plate on my CRF300F, and my first impression is really positive. Installation took me about two minutes since it reuses the front mounting points and clamps onto the frame in the rear. It was one of the easiest mods I've done.
Compared to the stock plastic skid plate, it provides noticeably more engine coverage, which gives me a lot more confidence riding over roots, rocks, and fallen branches. My original plastic plate already had a few gouges from trail riding, so the extra protection was something I wanted.
It's also surprisingly lightweight, so I didn't notice any difference in handling. The only thing I did notice is that the aluminum reflects some of the engine noise, giving the bike a slightly different, more metallic sound. It's not bad, just something I wasn't expecting.
