Your CRF450L / CRF450RL can spend one part of the day connecting trails on pavement and the next working through tight, technical terrain. The seat has to support both: a place to settle in during longer transfers and a shape that lets you move when the riding gets active.

That makes a seat upgrade worth choosing carefully. More seated support, easier ground reach and more legroom are different goals. Seat Concepts gives you distinct configurations to address them, with a complete assembly that lets you retain your original Honda seat.

This guide compares the Seat Concepts Complete Comfort Seat in Standard, Low, Tall and XL, plus the Element Complete Seat. Use the dimensions and riding priorities below to choose the combination that fits you.

CRF450L / CRF450RL seat fitment: 2019-2027

The Seat Concepts Complete Comfort Seat at CRF's Only covers the CRF450L / CRF450RL family, 2019-2027, through one product listing. Honda introduced the RL designation for the 2021 model year; that naming change does not require a different seat within this listed application.

Choose the height and cover within that listing, and confirm your exact year before ordering. A broad “CRF450” search can also return seats for motocross and other off-road models, so use the dedicated dual-sport product link. Tell us about an aftermarket tank or other changes around the seat if you need help checking the complete setup.

Compare the actual Comfort seat dimensions

Seat Concepts publishes the following dimensions for its 23-013 Comfort seat family. These are the four Comfort configurations relevant to the featured CRF450L / CRF450RL listing.

Standard, Low, Tall and XL Comfort seats compared
Configuration Height versus OEM Listed total width Main reason to choose it
Standard Comfort Same height 7 5/8 in / 194 mm Seated support at standard height.
Comfort Low 1 in / 25 mm lower 7 3/4 in / 197 mm A lower seated position for ground reach.
Comfort Tall 1 in / 25 mm higher 7 1/2 in / 190 mm More room between the seat and footpegs.
Comfort XL Standard Same height 9 1/8 in / 232 mm A wider platform for longer seated stretches.

XL is 1 1/2 inches wider than Standard Comfort while retaining the same listed height. Tall is slightly narrower than Standard, and Low is slightly wider. The measurements describe the seat itself; ground reach also depends on shape, foam compression, rider proportions and suspension sag.

Which configuration belongs on your bike?

Standard Comfort: the starting point for mixed riding

If stock seat height works for you, start here. The Comfort shape keeps the front relatively narrow, then broadens through the main seating area to spread support. That gives you a useful balance to assess when your rides combine seated road sections with frequent movement on trails.

Compare where you normally sit with where the seat gets wider. A published width is most useful when the support falls under your usual riding position.

Comfort XL: put longer seated sections first

XL is worth a close look for commuting, longer pavement connections and travel with substantial time in the saddle. Its 9 1/8-inch width creates a broader support area without intentionally raising the seating position.

Think through the whole ride: settling into the main seating area, moving toward the tank and transitioning to standing. Extra width can feel different against your legs, including at stops. XL describes the wider profile; foam support for your weight remains a separate consideration.

Comfort Low: prioritize a lower seated position

The Low option takes 1 inch out of the published seat height. It also brings the seat closer to the footpegs, increasing knee bend while seated. Reduced foam thickness can call for firmer support, so choose Low around the position you need.

A Low seat preserves the bike's configured chassis height, suspension travel and ground clearance. That makes it a useful option to evaluate before changing suspension height. Our Honda CRF lowering guide explains the separate considerations involved with lowering links and suspension changes.

Comfort Tall: create more seated legroom

Tall raises the seating position by 1 inch, opening the distance between the seat and footpegs. Consider it if the current position feels cramped, while accounting for the higher reach at stops. Choose Tall for that ergonomic change; additional foam does not automatically mean a softer seat.

Use three riding positions to make the decision

Before ordering, assess your current setup in your normal boots and riding pants: your reach when stopped, your knee bend while seated and your freedom to move forward or stand. Tell us which of those you want to improve. Rider height alone does not settle the choice; inseam, body proportions and riding style matter too.

Choose cover grip as carefully as seat height

The regular Comfort listing offers these cover choices:

  • Black Carbon sides / Black Gripper top: a high-grip top for riders who want more hold against their riding pants.
  • Red Semi-Grip sides / Black Semi-Grip top: textured grip with easier repositioning.
  • Black Carbon sides / Black Semi-Grip top: the Semi-Grip riding surface with black carbon-look sides.
  • Cobalt Blue with Blue Wire: a high-grip cover option for the Standard Comfort configuration.

Gripper and Wire materials resist sliding more aggressively. Semi-Grip offers a balance of traction and movement. Think about how often you deliberately shift position, as well as how much hold you want under acceleration. Black Carbon refers to the embossed vinyl appearance, not a carbon-fiber seat pan.

The Cobalt Blue option is limited to Standard Comfort. Do not assume it is offered with Low, Tall or the wider XL. Select from the current combinations on the product page.

Match the foam support to the rider

A seat that feels soft under your hand may compress differently under a rider for an hour. Shape, foam support and seated position work together. If you need help with density or preferred feel, provide your body weight and riding-gear weight separately and discuss the available specification with us before ordering.

Comfort versus Element: grip and weather protection

The Seat Concepts Element Complete Seat for CRF450L / CRF450RL adds features for riders who want more traction and moisture protection:

  • A gripper-material cover with four rear traction ribs.
  • Internally sealed seams to help prevent water reaching the foam.
  • A thin barrier over the foam for additional moisture protection.

Compare Element if wet, muddy rides are common and you want the ribbed surface's extra hold. If easy repositioning is a major priority, compare that grip with the regular Comfort seat's Semi-Grip choices.

The Element listing offers Standard, Low and Tall, with All Red/White Ribs, All Black/Red Ribs and All Black/Black Ribs cover choices. It does not currently offer XL. Use its product page for the selected configuration; the dimensions table above covers the regular Comfort family.

The regular Comfort cover uses water-resistant vinyl, but its standard seams are not waterproof. Element's sealed seams provide an additional layer of protection for wet-weather use.

A complete seat keeps the installation straightforward

Both featured products are complete seats: a Seat Concepts pan, foam and cover assembled as one replacement unit. You can keep your original Honda seat intact. There is no need to remove its cover, transfer foam or staple upholstery for these products.

A foam-and-cover kit is a different purchasing format that reuses the original pan and requires upholstery work. A cover-only replacement retains the existing foam shape. Neither description should be confused with the complete assemblies linked here.

Follow the supplied seat instructions and Honda's procedure for your model year. Engage the mounting features correctly, use the specified fasteners and torque, and check that the assembly is secure. If the seat does not locate properly, resolve the fit before riding rather than forcing it into place.

Protect the cover after the ride

Seat Concepts recommends mild detergent, warm water and a soft brush, followed by air drying. Avoid soaking the seat, harsh solvents and direct pressure washing. This care applies even when you choose a seat with additional moisture protection.

CRF450L / CRF450RL seat questions

Does one Seat Concepts listing cover both model names?

Yes. The featured CRF's Only Complete Comfort Seat listing covers CRF450L / CRF450RL applications from 2019-2027. Use that listing and select the configuration for your bike.

How wide is Standard Comfort compared with XL?

Standard Comfort is listed at 7 5/8 inches wide; XL is 9 1/8 inches wide. Both retain OEM seat height. XL adds 1 1/2 inches of total width.

Will the Low seat lower the motorcycle?

It lowers the seating position by 1 inch / 25 mm. It leaves chassis height, suspension travel and ground clearance as configured. Actual ground reach also depends on the seat's shape and the rider.

Is the Tall seat wider or softer?

Tall is listed at 1 inch / 25 mm above OEM height and 7 1/2 inches wide. Its main purpose is more seated legroom. Additional height does not guarantee a softer feel.

Which option should I compare for longer road sections?

Compare Standard Comfort and standard-height XL when the current height suits you. XL offers the broader support area; weigh that against ground reach and your movement on trail sections.

Is Element the same as a Comfort seat with a different color?

Element adds rear traction ribs, a gripper cover and internally sealed seams. It is a separate choice for riders prioritizing hold and additional moisture protection.

Do I need to send in my original seat?

No. The featured complete seats include their own replacement pan, foam and cover. You retain your original assembly.

Can I choose XL in the Cobalt Blue cover?

The current Cobalt Blue with Blue Wire option is for Standard Comfort. Choose another available cover for XL, or ask us to verify your requested combination before ordering.
