A CRF300L suspension upgrade can change the way you experience the entire motorcycle. Better support under braking, a rear end that settles after bumps and a balanced chassis on rough ground all help you use the bike's capabilities with more confidence. Those benefits matter on a rocky climb, a loaded backroad trip and the broken pavement on your commute.

At CRF's Only, suspension is a central part of how we help riders build a better CRF300L. We offer complete K-Tech and Race Tech packages, individual springs and shocks, cartridge conversions, and model-specific setup resources. The goal is a clear path from your riding needs to the right combination of parts.

This guide explains the differences that matter: what each package includes, how the fork upgrades work, when a rear shock alone makes sense, and how rider weight, luggage and ride height affect the decision. It covers our 2021–2027 CRF300L upgrade range, with separate guidance and links for the CRF300L Rally.

Why suspension makes such a difference on the CRF300L

The CRF300L is an approachable, versatile motorcycle. Its stock suspension can become a limitation as rider load, luggage, terrain or pace increase. Excessive sag, repeated bottoming, pronounced brake dive and a rear end that keeps moving after a bump are reasons to look at spring support and damping together.

The target is a bike that holds itself in a useful part of the suspension stroke, absorbs bumps and settles predictably. Making everything as stiff as possible misses that goal. A good setup needs enough support for the load while allowing the wheels to respond to the ground.

  • Spring rate determines how much additional force is required to compress the spring.
  • Preload helps set sag and the suspension's starting position under load. It does not change the spring rate.
  • Compression damping controls movement as the suspension compresses.
  • Rebound damping controls how it extends again.

That explains why a stronger spring and a damping upgrade do different jobs. It also explains the value of addressing both ends: front and rear suspension influence the attitude of the same motorcycle. A balanced setup gives the fork and shock a better chance to work together through braking, acceleration and successive bumps.

Compare CRF's Only complete suspension packages

Our complete packages bring the fork components and rear shock into one purchase. Here is what distinguishes the three main routes for the standard CRF300L.

What is included in each package
PackageFork upgradesRear shockWhy choose this route?
CRF's Only Complete Suspension PackageRace Tech fork spring kit and Gold Valve kitK-Tech Razor-R Lite EVOA coordinated front-and-rear upgrade combining Race Tech fork tuning with a K-Tech shock.
K-Tech Complete Suspension PackageK-Tech replacement fork spring and year-specific piston kitK-Tech Razor-R Lite EVOAn all-K-Tech approach to spring support and damping at both ends.
Race Tech Pro Suspension PackageRace Tech fork spring kit and Gold Valve kitCustom-built Race Tech G3-SA custom shock specified around rider weight, skill and riding type, paired with Race Tech fork components.

Choosing between the mixed package and all-K-Tech? Both use the EVO shock, so concentrate on the fork work. Ask your installer to compare the Race Tech spring-and-Gold-Valve build with the K-Tech replacement spring and piston kit, including installed cost and any components you already own. If external fork adjustability is a priority, compare the 20IDS conversion as a separate route. If a custom-valved rear shock is the priority, consider Race Tech Pro.

CRF's Only Complete: K-Tech shock with Race Tech fork upgrades

This package is a strong starting point when you want to address front and rear support and damping together. The Race Tech spring kit adds spring support to the fork; the Gold Valve kit provides a valving route for the installer to configure. The K-Tech EVO supplies the complete replacement rear shock.

Race Tech's Digital Valving Search provides application and rider-specific setup information for the Gold Valve installation. Supplying accurate rider details helps the installer configure the fork around the intended use.

K-Tech Complete: a matched K-Tech component package

The K-Tech package combines its EVO shock with a replacement fork spring and a fork piston kit. Select the correct year because the piston-kit options distinguish 2021–2022 from 2023 onward. Enter rider weight without gear where requested, then tell us about gear and luggage separately.

This package uses K-Tech's spring-and-piston approach. The 20IDS cartridge conversion is a separate fork option.

Race Tech Pro: the custom-built shock route

The Pro package adds a Race Tech G3-S shock built to the rider information supplied with the order. Include weight without gear, skill level and your mix of road and off-road riding. The internal-reservoir configuration provides spring-preload and rebound adjustment. A remote reservoir is an optional selection that adds compression adjustment.

Plan around its custom build schedule. The order cannot be changed, canceled or returned once the build has begun, so settle the specification before production starts.

Installation is separate: these packages supply suspension components. Fork assembly, oil, any needed service parts, installation labor and final setup must be planned with your installer.

CRF300L fork upgrades: understand the three approaches

The standard fork layout separates the main spring and damping functions between the legs. That makes product selection particularly important: two products described as a “fork spring upgrade” can work in different ways.

Race Tech adds a spring

The Race Tech fork spring kit adds a spring and adapter in the left damping leg while retaining the original spring in the right leg. The new spring works with the existing one, so its marked rate is not the total combined fork rate.

This is a focused support upgrade, with the Race Tech Gold Valve kit available to address damping as part of the fork build.

K-Tech replaces the existing spring and offers a piston upgrade

K-Tech's single replacement spring takes the place of the original right-leg spring. Its fork piston kit upgrades the compression and rebound damping assemblies. These are the fork components supplied in the all-K-Tech packages.

Choose one planned spring arrangement. Combining an added Race Tech spring with a K-Tech replacement spring requires a specialist to calculate the resulting rate and match the damping.

K-Tech 20IDS replaces the cartridges

For a more comprehensive fork conversion, our K-Tech 20IDS cartridge kit includes the required springs. It provides compression, rebound and spring-preload adjustment, plus hydraulic bottoming control.

This is an alternative to the spring-and-piston routes above. You do not need their separate springs or valve kits for the same conversion. It is also a specialist installation: the listed procedure involves fork-lug removal and assembly with the appropriate tools. Pair it with a rear shock selected for the same rider and use.

When a CRF300L rear-shock upgrade makes sense

If rear support and control are your main concerns, a shock can be a useful first stage. The K-Tech Razor-R Lite EVO combines a replacement shock assembly with spring options for different rider weights, plus rebound damping and spring-preload adjustment.

The EVO uses a 46 mm body and 16 mm damper rod. Its updated design is intended to improve heat management and damping consistency. Its listed external adjustments are rebound and preload; it does not provide a separate external compression adjuster.

Use the CRF300L Rider Guide's shock options to compare weight and height choices, or ask us to select the appropriate shock. Tell us if you carry luggage regularly or fall outside the listed weight ranges.

A shock-only purchase can be part of a staged build. Reassess the fork afterward, particularly if it already dives excessively or bottoms. A spring-only change to the existing shock retains that shock's damping hardware, so it should be evaluated as a different scope of work.

Match the suspension to your weight, luggage and riding

A solo commuter, a rider carrying camping equipment and someone riding rocky trails at a brisk pace can need different setups on the same model. Give us the load and riding details that describe your normal use.

What to tell us before ordering
DetailWhat to include
MotorcycleYear, CRF300L or Rally, country specification, and any existing suspension or lowering changes. Identify the factory CRF300LS separately.
RiderWeight without gear where the form requests it, plus skill level and riding pace.
Additional loadRiding gear, tools, racks and typical luggage. Mention occasional heavier trips separately.
TerrainYour road/off-road split and the surfaces you ride: pavement, gravel, rocks, sand or repeated rough sections.
PrioritiesSupport, comfort, bottoming resistance, damping adjustability, ground reach and budget including installation.

Follow the weight field exactly. Where a form asks for weight without gear, enter that figure and describe the extra load separately. Substituting a fully loaded total can lead to the wrong selection if the setup process already accounts for riding equipment.

After installation, set sag with the intended riding load using the shock or suspension supplier's guidance. Sag is a measurement of how far the suspension settles under load. If suitable sag and support cannot be achieved within the intended adjustment range, reassess the spring selection rather than adding preload indefinitely.

Model years, CRF300L Rally and low-height options

Choose the correct model and fork version

Our featured standard-CRF300L packages cover 2021–2027, with year-specific fork choices where required. Enter the actual model year, including on later bikes. If an order selector does not show your year, contact us to configure it.

The Rally has its own package listings: the Complete Suspension Package and Race Tech Pro Package, with further K-Tech choices in the CRF300L Rally Rider Guide. Some individual components support both models; use the exact application rather than assuming every package is interchangeable.

Plan lowering around the finished motorcycle

We offer a K-Tech low-height package and a low K-Tech shock with Race Tech fork components. These packages lower the rear through the shock choice. Their fork components remain standard height.

Have the installer plan chassis balance, suspension travel, ground and tire clearance, and side-stand lean. Combining a low shock with a lowering link needs a separate assessment. A properly supported bike can also settle less under the rider than an undersprung setup, so discuss ground reach before ordering.

The factory CRF300LS has its own lower-height arrangement and needs an application-specific check. For riders who mainly need easier ground reach, a lower seat may also be worth considering alongside the suspension plan.

The CRF's Only advantage: a complete plan for your CRF300L

Our CRF300L suspension offering brings several useful decisions together: spring support, damping, rear-shock choice, rider information and installation planning. That depth is the value of shopping with a Honda CRF specialist.

  • Multiple well-defined paths. Choose a focused spring or shock upgrade, a complete package or an adjustable cartridge conversion.
  • Rider-specific selection. Weight and use guide the setup, with a custom-built G3-S route when that is your priority.
  • Clear package contents. Compare the actual fork components and shock so you can order one coherent combination.
  • Model knowledge. Year-specific fork parts, Rally applications and low-height choices are part of the discussion.
  • Practical support resources. Product guidance and dedicated installation articles help you and your installer plan the work.

Plan the installation and first setup

Arrange qualified suspension installation for internal fork work. Budget for labor, oil and any seals or worn components that need attention. Complete the final checks with the bike assembled: sag, appropriate damping settings, clearances and secure installation.

Our Race Tech fork spring guide, Gold Valve installation overview and K-Tech rear-shock guide provide useful preparation. Follow the current component instructions and Honda service information for your exact motorcycle.

Check the product's current assembly or build lead time before booking a trip. The K-Tech-based custom packages have shipment-based return restrictions; the Race Tech Pro custom-build restriction begins when production starts. Confirm the specification and terms before ordering.

For the first evaluation ride, use familiar terrain and your usual load. Record the starting settings and change one adjustment at a time. That gives you a useful reference as your riding and luggage needs evolve.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best CRF300L suspension upgrade?

When both ends lack support or control, start with a complete spring-and-damping package. Our mixed K-Tech/Race Tech, all-K-Tech and Race Tech Pro packages provide three clear routes. A focused spring or shock upgrade can suit a smaller first step.

Is suspension worth upgrading for street riding?

It can be. Support under braking, control over broken pavement and stability with luggage matter on the road. The right scope depends on the bike's current behavior and your normal load.

Can I replace just the rear shock?

Yes. A weight-matched K-Tech EVO shock is available separately. Plan the fork setup as well if the front already struggles with your weight or terrain.

Does more preload make the spring stiffer?

No. Preload changes sag and the starting position under load; it does not change spring rate. The correct spring and damping remain essential.

Do Race Tech and K-Tech fork springs work the same way?

No. The Race Tech kit adds a spring in the damping leg and retains the original spring. The K-Tech single spring replaces the original spring. Choose the appropriate arrangement as part of the complete fork setup.

Are springs included with the K-Tech 20IDS kit?

Yes, our linked CRF300L 20IDS kit includes the required fork springs. It is a separate conversion from the spring-and-piston packages and needs specialist installation.

Does a low-height package lower both ends?

No. The featured low packages use a low rear shock with standard-height fork components. Have the installer address the complete chassis balance and clearances.

Does a complete suspension package include installation?

The listed packages supply components; installation and final setup are separate. Compare current package prices with a labor quote, fork oil and any service parts needed. Include that installed total when choosing your upgrade.

Support. Control. Confidence.
