2026–2027 Honda Trail Bike
Stock specs, setup priorities, maintenance guidance and carefully selected CRF300F upgrades for Honda's newest full-size recreational trail platform.
All Honda CRF Rider GuidesKnow Your Bike
Introduced for 2026, the CRF300F succeeds the CRF250F as Honda's full-size recreational trail bike. It combines an air-cooled, counterbalanced single with fuel injection, electric starting, an oil cooler and a six-speed transmission.
Honda's 2026 and 2027 published mechanical specifications are the same, and CRF's Only has confirmed the platform's 2026–2027 fitment. The engine measures 293cc by bore and stroke; Honda also rounds it to 294cc in some marketing material.
This guide is for the USA-spec CRF300F off-road trail bike. The street-legal, liquid-cooled CRF300L and CRF300L Rally are different motorcycles. The CRF250F shares the trail-bike mission and some familiar dimensions, but the new engine, six-speed drivetrain, bodywork and chassis changes mean fitment must be confirmed one product at a time.
Start Here
Start with rider fit and real trail needs. The newest accessory is not automatically the most useful one.
Shield the lower engine and cases before rocks, logs and ledges make the first upgrade decision for you.
Start With ProtectionCheck sag, spring support and control position before chasing power. A balanced bike is easier to place and less tiring to ride.
Compare Suspension OptionsLearn the air-filter, oil-and-filter, chain and valve schedule early so the trail bike stays ready between rides.
Review MaintenanceQuick Reference
Honda publishes the same core engine, drivetrain, tire and chassis specifications for the 2026 and 2027 CRF300F. Follow the manual supplied with your motorcycle whenever a procedure, capacity or torque value matters.
Useful numbers: Honda specifies 15 psi cold in both stock tires, 30–40 mm (1 3/16–1 9/16 in) of drive-chain slack and a maximum load of 220 lb including rider and accessories. Honda does not publish a stock chain-link count, so confirm the installed gearing, axle position and required length before cutting a replacement chain.
Choose Your Goal
These are curated starting points, not a requirement to replace everything at once. Choose the problem you want to solve, then confirm the exact model year, configuration and current product details before ordering.
Protection, Comfort & Control
For most trail builds, protection and rider contact points deliver value before engine work. Start underneath the bike, then address the seat and controls that affect every mile.
Model-specific 3/16-inch aluminum protection for the engine underside, crankcase and vulnerable side coverage.
A complete seat with a wider seating area and stock-height or low configurations for riders prioritizing support and reach.
A short three-finger lever with reach adjustment and an outward-folding pivot designed to reduce damage in a fall.
A die-cast aluminum housing supplied with the rubber boots, pulleys, bolts and adjusters needed for the assembly.
Suspension & Rider Fit
Spring support and damping are different decisions. Measure rider sag, note where the bike bottoms or deflects and decide whether the stock components are simply under-sprung or need a broader performance change.
Adult-rider springs developed for the stock CRF300F fork when the original support is too soft for rider weight or pace.
A 12.5 kg replacement spring for riders who need more rear support than BBR's listed 9.0 kg stock reference.
A replacement shock built and valved around rider weight, ability and riding style rather than a one-setting-fits-all setup.
Power, Exhaust & EFI
The CRF300F uses a 34mm fuel-injection system, not a carburetor. Choose an exhaust for the intended use and sound requirements, keep the filter properly serviced and evaluate fueling for the complete intake-and-exhaust combination.
A stainless Enduro Series full system developed specifically for the CRF300F, with a USFS spark arrestor installed.
An aluminum-and-stainless slip-on with a removable spark-arrestor screen for riders choosing a muffler-only path.
A reusable two-stage foam filter that separates for thorough cleaning—useful for riders who maintain filters frequently in dust.
Drivetrain, Tires & Brakes
The stock reference is a 14T front, 50T rear and #520 O-ring chain. Count the installed sprockets and confirm the required chain length before changing gearing; then match tire construction and brake setup to the terrain.
A nickel-chromoly countershaft sprocket with selectable tooth counts for replacement or a deliberate gearing change.
A drop-in auto-clutch pack designed to prevent stalling while retaining normal clutch-lever override when the rider wants it.
A forged 6061-aluminum pedal with a machined tip that can be mounted in two length positions for boot placement.
Service Parts & Information
The CRF300F uses a replaceable cartridge oil filter, a serviceable foam air filter and a sealed drive chain. Build your routine around conditions and operating time, not only the odometer.
A replacement cartridge filter with pleated media for routine CRF300F oil-and-filter service.
A pre-filled AGM replacement battery with a sealed, maintenance-free design for the electric-start CRF300F.
Honda's official reference for safety, controls, specifications, maintenance intervals and owner-level service procedures.
The full selection includes additional protection, controls, suspension, drivetrain, performance and replacement products.

Owner's Manual Baseline
Honda's schedule is a baseline for normal use. Service more often after dust, sand, mud, deep water or hard riding, and follow the manual supplied with your motorcycle for final procedures and specifications.
| Item | Useful baseline | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Break-in | First riding day or 15 mi / 25 km | Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration |
| Initial service | 100 mi / 150 km or 1 month | Oil, filter, valves and the complete schedule in the owner's manual |
| Engine oil & filter | Initial service; then every 600 mi / 1,000 km or 6 months | SAE 10W-30, API SJ+, JASO MA; 1.7 US qt with filter |
| Air cleaner | Clean every 600 mi / 6 months | Service more frequently in wet or dusty conditions |
| Drive chain | Inspect, adjust and lubricate every 300 mi / 3 months | 30–40 mm slack; clean and lubricate sooner after severe conditions |
| Spark plug | Inspect every 600 mi / 6 months | NGK SILMAR7D9DS; 0.8–0.9 mm gap |
| Valve clearance | Initial service; then every 600 mi / 6 months | Cold: intake 0.12 ± 0.03 mm; exhaust 0.20 ± 0.03 mm |
| Spark arrester | Every 1,000 mi / 1,600 km or 100 operating hours | Allow the exhaust to cool and follow Honda's procedure |
| Brake fluid | Inspect on schedule; replace every 2 years | Fresh DOT 4; Honda recommends dealer replacement |
This condensed checklist uses Honda's 2026 USA owner's manual. Honda publishes the same core engine, drivetrain and chassis specifications for 2027, but a separate 2027 manual was not yet available in Honda's online archive when this guide was prepared. Always follow the manual supplied with your motorcycle.
Common Questions
Quick answers for model identification, stock specifications, service and common upgrade decisions.
This guide covers the 2026 and 2027 Honda CRF300F. Honda's published mechanical specifications are the same for both years, and CRF's Only has confirmed the 2026-to-2027 product-fitment carryover. Still review the individual product configuration before ordering.
No. The CRF300F is an off-road recreational trail bike with an air-cooled engine. The CRF300L and Rally are street-legal, liquid-cooled dual-sport models built around a different engine and chassis. Do not order a 300L part for the 300F unless the product page explicitly lists both motorcycles.
Do not assume they do. The CRF300F succeeds the CRF250F and has familiar trail-bike proportions, but it adds a larger engine, six-speed transmission, oil cooler and associated chassis, bodywork and exhaust changes. Use only parts whose manufacturer application specifically includes the CRF300F.
No. The USA-spec CRF300F is designed and sold for off-road use. Registration and equipment rules vary by location, so check the applicable laws rather than assuming lights or other accessories make it road legal.
Yes. It uses Honda PGM-FI with a 34mm throttle body. That improves starting and altitude compensation compared with a carburetor, but intake and exhaust changes can still alter the fueling needs of the complete setup.
The published 77.0 × 63.0mm bore and stroke calculate to approximately 293cc, and Honda's 2027 specification page uses 293cc. Some 2026 Honda marketing rounds the engine to 294cc. Those two labels describe the same platform, not two different engines.
The stock front size is 80/100-21 51R NHS and the rear is 100/100-18 59R NHS. Both are tube-type, bias-ply off-road tires. Honda specifies 15 psi cold front and rear for the stock setup; follow the tire maker and owner manual when changing tire construction or use.
The stock reference is a 14T front sprocket, 50T rear sprocket and #520 O-ring-sealed chain. Honda specifies DID 520VD2 as the replacement-chain type but does not publish a link count. Confirm installed gearing, axle position and needed length before cutting a chain.
Honda specifies the NGK SILMAR7D9DS with a gap of 0.8–0.9 mm (0.03–0.04 in). Use the exact plug specification and follow the owner's manual for removal, inspection and installation.
Honda specifies SAE 10W-30 motorcycle oil meeting API SJ or higher—excluding energy/resource-conserving oils—and JASO MA. Capacity is 1.6 US qt after draining, 1.7 US qt with the filter changed and 2.1 US qt after disassembly. Verify the oil level by Honda's procedure rather than relying on quantity alone.
For the first operating day or 15 miles, Honda advises avoiding full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration. The initial service is due at approximately 100 miles or one month; check the complete schedule and procedures in the owner's manual.
For rocky trail use, a skid plate is an easy first choice. For an adult or faster rider, measure sag and evaluate spring support. If hand reach, seat comfort or stalling is the actual limitation, address that directly. Performance parts make more sense after protection, rider fit and maintenance are handled.
The answer depends on the full intake and exhaust combination, conditions and how the bike runs. Do not assume fuel injection compensates for every airflow change. Follow the exhaust and fueling manufacturers' guidance, check legal-use restrictions and evaluate the complete package rather than one part in isolation.
Honda does not publish a universal top-speed figure. Rider weight, elevation, terrain, tire choice, gearing, break-in and test method all change the result. For a trail bike, controllable low-speed response, chassis setup and usable gearing are more meaningful than an unsupported top-speed claim.
