Stock sizes and service-part quantities
Use these starting references to check the bike and the cart. Inspect the tires, wheels, gearing and intake actually fitted, and use the exact owner’s manual for pressures, capacities, tightening values and service intervals.

Two details that can prevent a stranded trip: know whether your installed wheels need inner tubes, and practice the repair method you plan to carry. Confirm the tools needed to remove your wheels before you leave. A generic small-CRF tire bundle is not automatically appropriate for the Africa Twin’s sizes and load.
Understand the Transmission
Manual clutch, auto clutch and DCT do different jobs.
Choose the service and upgrade route for the transmission already in the motorcycle. A product’s use of “automatic” does not mean it belongs in every automatic or DCT application.

Learn the controls on your exact year. Riding modes, Honda Selectable Torque Control, DCT shifting and rear-ABS operation are distinct functions. Start with Honda’s recommended operating procedures and change one setting at a time in a suitable practice area. Do not copy another year’s button sequence or remove components to bypass a system.
A Closer Look at Handling
Fix the cause before choosing a handling upgrade.
The Africa Twin’s road manners and off-pavement control depend on tires, load placement, chassis condition and suspension working together. Record the current settings and evaluate the bike with its normal riding load.

Give the setup technician the whole load. State rider weight and whether it includes gear, then separately list luggage, accessories and regular passenger use. Identify standard or Adventure Sports, current spring/valving changes and any lowering. Keep a record of the settings that work for solo riding and for travel.
Keep the Bike Ready
Maintenance before modifications
Create a service log from the owner’s manual for your exact CRF1000L year, market and transmission. Follow the specified time and mileage limits, including the notes for dusty, wet and demanding use. The checks below complement that schedule.
