i just came back from bear creek in hancock ny and there single track woods courses showed me the power i lack. my buddy recommended me trying a more aggressive cam for the woods does any body have any suggestions as to which cam will work good in the woods? I also read allot of people are swapping the stock carb with a older xr250 carb, does this swap work that good? would i have to change up the throttle cables? any suggestions for these to ideas would be greatly appreciated

my current mods are uncorked exhaust and air box opened,14/47 gearing,uni filter, suspension re-valved and sprung by drew a W.E.R

the saying "there's no replacement for displacement" is true here. get the bbr big bore kit with cam. best bang for your buck and maintains reliability:

I agree with Ken. I have a BBR big bore piston and Webb 89A cam in my current dual sport 230. It is not 'rip your arms out of their socket' power but it is a huge improvement over stock bore and cam. I am currently having a 230 motor built with a stock bore Weisco Hi Comp piston and BBR cam. Soon as it is up and running I will let ya know how that one works. I hope its not too much for the wife. If it is ....Oh well

Before you go throwing money at the motor, have you rejetted it from stock? Look in to the Mike Coe jetting specs or the Power Up needle and jetting. You decide which you think is best from the reviews. Re the XR carb it will improve top speed but that is not typically where you would need power in single track conditions. Per Mike Coe a properly jetted CRF230 Carb is as good as an XR carb for much less money. Mike backs his statements up with solid dyno results not just seat of the pants stuff. If you dont know who Mike Coe is google his name.

i spoke to mike coe over the past couple days i have the bike properly jetted and the needle change. I did that the first week i got the bike. I figured that the carb swap thing was just a waste of money. For trying to squeeze just a little bit more power i was thinking of running either the bbr or the yoshimura full exhaust system, haven't been able to find as to which one would be the best one. and with speaking to mike about the cams he recommended using a webcam with the crf150f profile. Has anyone done this cam or even used the webcams high performance crf230f if so how was the bike after the install, how was the power delivery etc?

As stated I am running the web89a cam from the 150f with the big bore kit in one of my 230s. Its an excellent combination. It is a bigger cam than the BBR cam

Thanks o.d im assuming I'll be using a 2013 crf150f web89a cam and with this cam I'm guessing I'll be getting more aggressive low mid power.

Also should I run the Web cam valve springs or is this unnecessary

Yes on power gains and not necessary to run the springs but a good idea. I personally wouldn't run my used OEM springs with any new cam. Rocker arms and valve keepers are also inexpensive so you might want to replace those also.

running the Webcams springs is a good idea to avoid spring binding. as OD mentioned, always a good idea to replace springs when installing a new cam and/or new valves. we are a webcams dealer so if we can help let us know.

Does the WebCam idle smoothly? Can you tell it's modded from the idle

I did not notice a difference. Certainly not noticeable like putting a big cam in your small block Chevy. Note: Others may notice a funny taste when you are out riding with them....the taste of your dust
