i haven't done this personally. i know honda updated decomp assembly '07 450R. as a result your '06 X decomp assembly won't work with the '07 cam. it may be possible to get the '07 450R decomp assemply to use it with your '06 450X. however, there could be other issues like the cam gear. i have read others saying it won't work. it may be that they were saying this in terms of a direct drop in. i wonder if they tried the updated decomp assembly and a new cam gear. i'll be interested in what you find when you get yours.

i do know the '02-06 R cams will drop right in and use the same decomp assembly. i have a '05 R cam in my '05 X and love it.

I have the entire cam & carrier including the decomp & cam gear. It looks like everything will fit. Just wanted to know if everything will run OK and what kind of performance I will get? I.E. Does the power feel like the '03-'05 450R...?

if you have everything then there's a good chance it will work. report back once you know for sure. on the performance, no it won't be just like an '03-06 450R. the heads are different as well as the ignition timing not to mention the wide-ratio trans. with this cam you could do the pink-wire mod to get the R timing and that will get you closer.

Thanks Ken, I thought so... I'm waiting for my head rebuild to be done before I bolt everything up and run it. I have been running the '05R cam with the pink wire also. If this combo works out like I think it will. I will be selling the '05R cam.

Why a 07R cam? Something wrong with the 05?

Nothing wrong with this one, just got a great deal on the '07 cam & carrier. It has everything I need & it looks brand new.
I guess, I wanted to see how it works out. since no one else has tried it yet. A lot of people have tried the '02, '03 & the '05 cams including me. After I put it all back together and give it a good test ride, i'll report back on how it works or if it doesn't then i"ll put my '05 cam back in and sell it.

definitely interested in the results. i currently have an '05 R cam in my 450X so i'm personally interested in the difference between these two.

Well everything bolted up just fine, Absolutely no issues at all except I had to re-shim after torquing the cam carrier. Now I'm just waiting on my new FMF Megabomb, then I'll test it out on Friday.

Ken, put it all together last night :D I couldn't wait for the new FMF Megabomb to come in today, so I put the stock header and ran it around my neighbohood for 30 min (Breakin) :P All I can say is WOW, I really like it with the '07R cam,It may be a coincidence but it runs great & started right up. I also put on a new '09 450x head and new piston too! I am going to take it on the trails this weekend and report back. So far so good, power is awesome from idle all the way up to 8K (didn't take it any higher yet). I'll run it again today!

excellent follow up. so as long as you have the entire carrier with the cam with the decomp it slides in no problem.

Yep, all went in very easily. One thing to keep in mind is while shimming on the bench, remember it will tighten up once installed on the bike.

Well, I rode it on the trails yesterday :P All I can say is WOW, I love it seems to be much smoother than an '02R cam and has more power than an '03 or '05R cam as well. The bike would not stall, I was climbing some pretty steep hills and the bike would keep on going, no matter what I did. The only stall was when I put it into a hill  My fault!

So in conclusion the '07R cam is a great choice. I'm going to sell my '05R cam...
