CBR250 Engine/CRF Frame

Hi,
I have a 2011 CBR 250 engine and wondered if it will fit into a CRF 250L frame? I want to build my own trail bike as on a budget and buying parts as and when I get spare cash.
Would the CBR engine fit any other frames apart from the L as these frames are hard to come by. Loads of 2003-2009 Frames available but would it fit?
Thanks

Hello,
If you are looking for a "plug & play" the answer is a straight - No.
If you are handy and mechanically inclined and have so design knowledge then the answer would be - Yes, with custom fabricated mounts and design of nearly everything going to and coming out of the CBR engine.
You can put an anything engine into an anything frame with enough work and engineering.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for your message. I thought I read somewhere that the CBR250 single engine was the same as the CRF250L apart from a few differences? Throttle body and gearing was different I think?

It may well be the same basic engine, which is quite common in all of the motorcycle industry.
- The problems or challenges are in the mounting of the engine to the different frame and then of coarse the intake and exhaust. That's not even considering the differences in electronics and harness changes for the two different applications.
Not saying by any means that it can't be done. Just be very aware there is very little plug & play on those kind of retrofits.
Make it a project and have fun designing and fabricating it as you go. That is what makes doing those kind of projects interesting.
Document the entire process and sell it as a build kit video. Might make you famous. :D

Thanks Neil,
Sounds like it may be an interesting one! Never straight forward.
Looking at mounting points an L frame would be a good start if only I could find one!
Can’t find any L’s for sale in UK. All other parts available fairly cheap but without the frame
