    Should I Buy A CRF250L Rally?

    by Warrior-goat » Tue Aug 22, 2017 7:32 pm

I am new to this forum stuff. Please be patient. I am looming to purchase a ne crf250l rally but I have a question. I am 6'1" and weigh 225lbs. Does the rally have enough power and suspension for me for street riding?

Welcome to CRF's Only! Your question is one only you can answer as it depends on many personal factors. Such as, what kind of street riding, what skill level you have and what your expectations are. This is not a "street bike" per se. It is a Rally bike that is designed for both on and off road use. It also is a 250cc motor. So, if you are hoping to hit the twisties with your Ducati friends and hang with them the answer is no. However, if you want to hit the freeway to get to the twisties and then have some fun taking a detour on a logging or fire road to get to an old mining site or ghost town you bet.

    Again, welcome.

So, maybe not what you want to hear, but my opinion is that you WILL need to make some significant upgrades to the 250Rally for what you are asking. At a minimum, you are looking at the exhaust, header, fuel tuner, K&N air cleaner and possibly the airbox mod to get the street performance you need, and then add the suspension mods based on your size and weight.

The performance mods will alter the sound of the bike, so you should consider if this will be a problem where you ride, as well as the decreased fuel mileage and rather small gas tank should be factored in as well.

You should seriously consider your alternatives given the changes you will need to make (and the cost!), and whether you are comfortable adding all those pieces to your ride.

    Good luck with your decision!

I struggled with the same question. My son has a 2013 CRF250L and I was so impressed with it, I sold my Kawasaki Versys to buy one too.....but which one. There are things about the Rally model I really like, bigger fuel tank, headlights, etc., but there was just too much cheap plastic on it.....things that would have to be replaced. So, I bought the regular 2017 CRF250L model. Lighter and less expensive too.
