    Finding TDC

    by Meatballz » Tue Apr 14, 2015 12:17 pm

According to a guide on the internet, and my haynes manual, the bike is in TDC when the "in" and "ex" mark are flush on the 2 sprockets in the head of the engine.

When I turn the crank manually until the T mark lines up with the notch in the little inspection hole, the "in" and "ex" are upside down and not flush.

If I rotate the crank again until I see the T, the sprockets are in the same place, upside down.

I'm checking my valve clearances and not sure which to pay attention to, the T mark, or the "in" and "ex" being flush with the top of the head?

If it is slightly not TDC will this make a big difference to valve clearances?

The alignment marks on the cams are properly aligned when they are facing outward not inward. If they are on the "inside" you need to rotate the cam 360 degrees with the "T" mark aligned. There will be clearance under both cams when properly aligned at TDC. Yes, it matters.

    Good luck,
