    Bike won't kick start

    by Smidge » Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:24 am

Ok guys maybe you have some insight here because im stumped. I have an 05 250x 42.5 hours on top end with ss valves. I just adjusted the valves for the first time since the top end was done.
The bike will start instantly with the starter but when it's cold it does not want to kick start. When it's running it runs great.
I know the starter clutches go bad on these sometines as I've replaced them on other 250x's before but this one isn't showing any of the same issues as those.
Could this be my decomp lever?

    Hi Smidge,
If you have adjusted your valves then I would check you decomp first.

When kick starting make sure you gently kick it over to you get it on TDC on compression before you give it a good kick.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

Yea, valves are adjusted and in spec. I can hear the decomop "click" when I get the bike to TDC. So I assume it's working. But I believe there is a proper way to check it, correct? If so what is the proper way to do that?
