'04 250x Bad Coil Resistance Question

Hi,
I'm (still) trying to diagnose a starting problem after rebuilding the carb and installing a new head and valves.

I got one "pop" out of it today which at least gives me some confidence I'm getting closer.

Question: I have 2 coils, the old OEM coil and a new aftermarket coil. Both read as having more resistance than is specified in the manual.

Primary Resistance reading is .3 ohm when it should be .07-.1 for a '04 250x.
Secondary reading is 5.8 k ohm when it should be 4.6-4.8 k ohm

Is a coil bad if it reads as having too much resistance?

Thanks
-J

Unless there is specified a temperature that the check is done at a resistance readings can be +- 10% easily.

It was definitely hotter than the 70 degF spec for testing -more like 85 deg.

Since they both tested pretty much the same I think it must be another issue, rather than the coil.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
