I don't have a 250X Service Manual (just Owners Manual which does not do Electrical) , the settings "should be the same though , so the easiest way to check , is remove the left side radiator shroud , right above the fuel valve , there should be (on a tab on the frame spar) a Black 4 wire plug , unplug it , and look at the Yellow wire and the White wire , put your meter to continuity test , touch a known ground (battery ground is fine) with the black probe and the red to each of the wires mentioned , and each of those wires at the connector (stator side) should have continuity , if any wire does not have continuity , then the stator is bad , that is the fastest test ....
EDIT: , I just checked the 250X Manual from manualslib.com , The Honda Service Manual covers from 04-13 , and it is the same connecter and test as the 450X , so this is out of my 450X Service Manual ... so look for this plug and it should tell you if its bad or not , I can also post other tests if needed
