    Need help Understanding Alternator diagram

    by kiprock » Fri Mar 06, 2020 6:51 pm

Hello! I am new the forum but not to CRFs! I just bought an 05 CRF250X and have a question about the alternator outputs. In my diagram, the blue and yellow wires go to the rectifier. The blue wire also goes to the headlight with the other side if the headlight going to ground.

I am trying to understand how the diagram works. It looks like the blue wire is a center tap on the stater, giving only half of the available power to the headlight, while the blue and yellow wires go up to the rectifier and on to the battery charging circuit. I am a little confused about what happens between the center tap and ground (I'm used to transformer notation). Maybe I am misunderstanding the notation on the diagram here. Most people say that the stator has 20watts going to the rectifier/charging circuit and about 40 watts to the headlight. I'm just a little confused as to how the stater is really wired.

The reason I ask is that I am wanting to plate the bike and convert it to full DC for led lighting. I want to capture all of the available AC amperage from the alternator as possible, convert that to DC and send it to the battery for charging AND running lights, like you find in most traditional motorcycle lighting circuits. I had a CRF230 that I did this to and it worked great. I was going to add a secondary rectifier/regulator combo on the existing headlight wires, but I think perhaps this is unnecessary. I hope my question is clear and I appreciate any help in understanding the existing circuit. Thank you!

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

Sorry no one has replied yet ... I am guessing because we are not sure of the exact answer for you .......... I would say that given the majority of people do Dual Sport the bike , that the only worry you should have is that any/all accessories do not overload the output of the Lighting Stator which is 35 watt , otherwise you will need to get a higher output stator ....... As far as LED stuff , you would need to contact someone who makes LED stuff for bikes and get the specs from them ....

Who I would contact is Trail Tech .... They make dual Sport kits for the X , and can tell you what you need , as they also have LED setups .... so if anyone can answer your questions , it would be them ....... sorry no one responded sooner :(
