    Cam Shaft Bearings

    by holsa912 » Sat Oct 20, 2018 2:31 am

    Does anyone know if you can replace the bearings on the cam shaft of a CRF250X 2006, rather than having to buy a whole new assembly? I've been to a local dealer this morning who says I can only buy the full assembly, but I have seen bearing kits online.

    The bearing on the sprocket side of the cam shaft cracked as I fastened the bolts for the holder onto it. It must have been misaligned as I used the correct torque as per the manual.

    Cheers!

    @JimDirt Thanks!

    Damn, I was hoping that not to be the case.. Ahh well, a new cam shaft it is then.. Do you know if the cam shaft is the same on the CRF250R and CRF250X? I'm looking at a few breakers, but can only seem to find them for the 'R' version and not the 'X'.

    The grind is different , the X has a mellower profile and is not as aggressive as the R , some people change them for performance gains , it really depends on what usage you want with the bike , if its slow trail or single track riding , the X cam is not as much of a handful of power down low like the R cam is , you may like the R cam profile , I run a HotCams Stage 1 in my 450X and use it for tight single track as well as open desert riding , and i love how the bike responds , though more R cams are best suited for desert type riding when used in a X

    Its a matter of , if your happy with the power delivery of the X cam then I would just continue with it , not everyone likes or needs the performance gain you get with a cam swap , not saying the bike will be uncontrollable , it will just have a more abrupt power delivery .... If you can get a R cam cheap , then try it out , if you don't like it , then continue looking for a X cam

    Ok that sounds better! Did you do a straight swap of the cam on yours, or did you change the head/valves springs etc? I've read somewhere that if you change the cam you need to ideally change the cam, but I'm not sure how accurate that is?

    I do mostly single track riding too (though there isn't much desert here in the U.K. :lol: )

    Update**

    Swapped the X cam out with an R cam and did the CCC mods too, the bike has been transformed, much more power down low and throttle feels a lot more responsive! Sorted out my jetting at the same time, and doesn't seem to bog as it used to. Surprising what small changes can do!

    Glad you liked the change , yea , the power delivery is different , and if it suits the riding you do , then that is great \:D/
