2005 CRF250x head markings / initials. Any thoughts? Was this head rebuilt already?

Bought a 2005 CRF250x a few months back. Hard to start, but easy once warmed up. Kick start had no compression. Usual signs of valves being out of clearance.

Took the valve cover off today and sure enough the intake and exhaust were tight. Smallest feeler I had was a .004 (I didn't realize I didn't have smaller feelers) and taht wouldn't fit in the intake. Exhaust was very tight with a .010.

I was planning on getting the seats recut and Kibblewhites installed anyway so I took the head off when I noticed some of these inscribings. I think The KRN markings matches up with the early X models (04-06 used the same head as the R models from what I hear). But I saw these markings on the side - AN65? UN65? Are these initials by someone who rebuilt the head before? Only other page I see something similar is Rick's- and he never mentioned it again from what I saw.

He saw these when he was installing the big bore kit. I doubt my bike has that, but is there a way to check?

As well, how do you think those cam journals look? Is that salvageable or should I expect the shop to say its trash?

Welcome to the site and congrats on your CRF250X! Brand new heads from Honda will have these same markings/engravings so no need to be concerned about them. The head is not changed or modified when installing a big bore kit. You can measure the piston to determine if you have a bit bore kit installed. Journals look good from what I can determine from the photos. We offer CNC valve job with KW SS valves:

Thanks for the info Ken! I didn't realize that kit was for intake AND exhaust valves. That is a dang good price.
