Where is the engine oil going?

    by Dlgarus » Tue Jan 17, 2017 5:39 am

I change the engine oil in my 05 250x every 10 hrs. I add the recommended 690 cc and for some reason it never reaches a visible level on the dipstick. I can see the oil level with a flashlight and it is definitely lower than the dipstick. The bike runs great and I don't usually check the oil level because of the frequent oil changes but I'd love to know where it is going.

    Thanks for your help.

Have you measured how much oil comes out of the transmission when you drain it?

Every 10 hours is a long-ish period of time if you are riding hard and revving high.

I would add another 50CC until the oil at least tickles the dipstick.

Thanks for the info. I will check how much oil I drop on the next oil change from both sides of the crankcase.
