    White smoke!

    by Hoopscrf » Sun Jan 08, 2017 2:40 am

I have a 2004 250x that has sat too much. Recently when I start it there is white smoke coming out of the where the head and exhaust header connect. It gets extremely hot real quick. I just shut it off as fast as I can.

    Anybody got any solutions?

    And how much to repair?

Any chance that something was spilled on the exhaust?
I would verify that all fluids are topped off, engine and transmission oil and coolant, and ride it for 10 minutes.
See if it clears up. After it cools, check fluid levels again, especially coolant.

There were no engine noises, just white smoke, correct?

I highly doubt anything spilled in it since I havent opened it up recently. I had been doing rides down the street before to make sure it kept starting.

It heats up quickly (under a minute). I don't think I could even ride it for 10 mins without it heating up too much. But I'm willing to give it a shot. Thanks.

Usually overheating and white smoke is an indication of a bad head gasket. Not sure how one would go bad justnsitting, but I have seen straight Germany things

That's why I was suggesting that he top off the coolant and ride it, and see if it uses any.

These bikes get warm quickly while sitting and idling, and a perfectly good running bike will overheat while sitting still.
