    Hard starting after long run

    by Astro_Eric » Mon Dec 05, 2016 8:10 pm

You folks have been really helpful getting my very low miles '07 250X running well. I modified the air box and installed a JD Jetting kit. It runs far better and really strong.

However, i still have issues starting it after a long run. On several occasions I've made a mid-throttle run for several miles. At the end, I shut off the bike. Several minutes later, I tried to kick start it (battery's dead) and it wouldn't start. Hot start on, off, choke on, off, Throttle open or closed nothing... It will eventually start. But it takes a lot of work (30-40 kicks).

I'm cautious shutting off the bike after a long haul, for fear it won't start. I've tried going from red to blue needle, but I've had issues on both.

I feel like it's lean, after a long run. But it's hard to tell. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions? I hate not having a reliable bike.

    Thanks for the assistance,

    Eric

That sounds like a plugged gas cap vent of the fuel cap.
A new cheapo Chinese battery is less than $30 shipped to your house, and although they have no right to work well at that price, they work great.
I have had 15 CRF's, and have never had to use the hot start ever.

That's interesting. I'm not sure I would have come up with that solution. So loosening the cap and doing a run should test that theory. I'll give it a try.

I thought I'd also check my valve clearance, as this seems to be a symptom of valve clearance.

As for the battery, I've just been lazy. I was looking at a Li-ion battery. But maybe I'll just get a cheapo.

    Thanks for the input.
