Applied Racing Crankcase Vent Kit Question

    by mossman77 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 7:39 am

I just purchased an Applied Racing Crankcase Vent Kit and read through the installation instructions posted on this site. Everything is self-explanatory, but I'm questioning whether putting the breather filter on the end of the pink tube down by the swing arm is going to be a good idea. I ride a lot of muddy terrain and that area gets packed with mud. Is there any reason why I couldn't/shouldn't cut the pink tube shorter and install the filter up higher and hanging vertically so that mud doesn't clog it up? As long as it is unobstructed, I don't see why this would be an issue.

I just spoke with Applied Racing and they said mounting it higher is fine and the reason they say to put it where the instructions say to put it is to keep dust and dirt from getting sucked in. They also said it is fine to retain the stock T fitting and drain tube. So, all I need to do is pull the tube from the intake boot, cap off the hole, attach the filter to the hose, and zip tie the filter/hose somewhere convenient. Actually, rather than a zip tie, I think I'll secure it with a small screw clamp. I'm excited to get these vent hoses off my intake boot. Anything to make lifting and lowering the subframe less painful!

My new valve cover hose hasn't arrived yet, but I completed the rest of the job. You guys get the idea...
