2004 250X runs rich off bottom loads up bad throttle response after about 10 min of running then clears out in midrange goes like bat out of hell. May sound fun to some not ideal in hilly tight Millville hare scrambles
Just started last week. Carb gone through in July was running perfect.
Had this problem a year ago, decided hot start was hanging up slightly, put in new plunger.
Now found hot start lever hard to work and maybe slight kink in cable,
Any thoughts?

Hot Start will LEAN the system not richen it when pulled out , when its IN , it should be giving fuel as normal , so it should not make it run richer than normal even if stuck closed , are you sure its running rich , and not getting a lean bog ??

Is your plug wet/black/sooty ??

Have you checked your float level ?? , if its a intermittent issue , then i would lean towards a blockage of a air passage somewhere , or a AP issue , have you verified the AP is squirting and the AP timing is correct ??

Thanks JD you're right what am I thinking hot start adds air past the slide
Definitely seems rich when I whack the throttle or even rev it in neutral feels like a 2 stroke that is loading up rich, engine stutters. Lean bog seems like engine moans and goes nowhere.
Went away halfway through first lap at Millville HS came back on trail ride last Sat. Rode 20 min. yesterday perfect even with heavy throttle at low Rs. Only thing I did was put a little slack in the hot start cable and drain water out of the breather hose
AP looked good in July did install adjustable leak jet
Good thought looking for clogged vent hoses going to look at the plug color also
