Rear Beake lever with Rekluse Clutch Cover

    by MattBennett23 » Thu May 14, 2015 11:24 am

    Hey guys!

I have a 2009 CRF250X. I have modified it with a Rekluse Auto Clutch and a Rekluse Billet Clutch Cover. The issue I have is that the Rekluse cover is deeper than the stock cover, and my rear brake lever rubs lightly on it. I have added a piece of rubber over the brake lever to keep from doing damage. This works fine but I am looking for a better solution.

I have also recently added a Hammerhead gear shift lever and love the looks of it. I am likely going to be getting the matching brake lever also. My main question is, does anyone know if the Hammerhead Brake lever has the same clearance issue?

I have read that this issue is common on the Hondas, but have seen someone post that the Hammerhead lever eliminated this problem and had no clearance issue on the 450R. The guy had a 450R with the Rekluse cover and accidentally bought the 450X lever which fit fine and actually solved his lever clearance issue. Does anyone know if this is the same on the 250X?

Appreciate the advise. I have linked the other thread about the problem the guy was having on his 450R.

Well I have the Hammerhead Rear Brake Lever and Hammerhead Brake Lever Return Spring Kit on the way. I guess I will just have to wait and see. Should be installing them over Memorial Day Weekend. I will update this to let anyone interested know what I find out.

Just to keep people updated, we put the new lever on. It had clearance where the other lever didnt, but the tip was slightly hitting the cover on the new one. We bent the lever out and got a little clearance out of it. Lever works great, and it looks awesome!

    Thats cool !!

Question , in the first pic with the rubber protector , was there a reason you could not adjust the brake lever down at the clevis so it would not hit the cover ??

I could have adjusted the lever down, but I like where the tip sat, I didnt want to lower the tip where I hit the break so we added the rubber. Plus its a good excuse to buy some new bling.

LOL , yea i guess that is one way to justify buying new toys

On a side note , i prefer my pedal down a bit , otherwise i drag the brake a lot , so i lowered them on both bikes , but the X is the most , because i tend to ride forward a lot and that makes me drag the brake , so lowering it , seemed to make it less likely for me to drag the brake , but i run my shifter up higher , so its kind of weird , but it works for me

Ya its all personal comfort. I dont have a problem riding the brake, and I was comfy with the levers where they were. I like having it right there if I need it in a hurry. But I gotta admit I had no problem with the old lever setup. I got my bike pretty much how I want it. My uncle bought me the shift lever for Christmas, so I bought the brake lever to match. Mostly just cause they are awesome looking....

Yea they look great =D> , i guess its like me doing all my parts black from the engine cases to brake guards and having the suspension parts Anodized black , and having black accented graphics on the X with its white plastics , and white accented graphics on the R with its black plastics ,then polishing the frame and triple clamps , its all about getting that personalized look

Though the brake pedal tip looks like my Pro Moto Billet/Fastway pegs with the adjustable Allen screws , so i may have to get one of those for my X to complete the look on it , though i would get a black tip

Good to see it fixed your issue, I have both, but couldn't help, I have fastway pegs in "lowboy" so my levers are low and miss everything, and cant recall the spacing from the stock ones.

    Anyhow, on the bling.

I think they look great, and they work well.
But, the black in the brake lever arm wears off fast, big area about where the white words are.
The side tip at the front wears down too.
    Both from boot rubbing.

The tip of the shifter lever also wears down and gets a flat spot, with the red going from most of it.

I still like mine as leavers, but the nice looking bling doesn't really hold up.

YMMV with hours/how much shifting you do/back brake use.
