    by aljeann » Fri Mar 02, 2007 9:26 am

    hi guys,

just installed my JD jettings. my crf250x 2006 now has a little bog than the stock jettings. my problem now after installing the JD jettings is when i rev the bike quicky and quickly release the trotlle my idle goes very slow to normal idling it takes about 2secs before it gets the right idle. have i done anything wrong?

    sealevel to 4000ft
    18-35.C

    main jet 158
    pilot jet 42
    fuel screw set 1.5 turns
    needle red in 5th position
no ccc modification just removed my stock muffler baffle

Have you done the air box mod yet?
Try adjusting the fuel screw by 1/4 turns until you reach a max 2 1/2.
Did you adjust the throttle idle? (screw beside carb)
Does the throttle carb feel smooth or restrictive in any way?

That "hanging idle" is indicative of a lean condition. Do as Halen suggests with the fuel screw to start. Did you follow JD's settings exactly? What are set at now?

definitely sounds like a lean pilot circuit. you may be able to adjust the fuel screw to fix this as recommended...if it doesn't fix the problem you can go up one on the pilot jet and it should eliminate this condition.

no ccc mods dont want to open the airbox . all i want is to replace my stock muffler with yoshimura trc. yes i follow the JD Jettings instruction. 158 main, red needle 5th position , 1.5 fuel screw and i also put a 42 pilot.

    stock main jet 130
    stock pilot jet 40

    Try This:

open the door to the airbox. Run the bike with the door open. See if the condition still exists.

If yes, open the fuel screw to two turns.

Isn't doing the jets without doing the airbox mod a little like making a grilled cheese sandwich without the cheese?
I was under the assumption that JD was selling a 'system' in which all the modifications should be done to produce the desired results. My FMF pipe also indicated that the air box should be open and the jets are to be re-done. Just a heads up...

    100% correct.

His recommendations are based on the airbox mod. Without the increased airflow, all the numbers are skewed.

If the air intake is left stock, you might as well save your money and leave the jetting and exhaust stock as well.

I'm with you there, and that's why I ran with this setup. I found it in a dirtrider magazine.

I have recently completed this setup in my bike

    132 Main

    45 Slow

    Replace needle with NCVQ (450R)

    Needle position 3rd from top

    Fuel screw 2-1/4 turns out.

I finally rode with this setup last weekend, and the I'm almost happy. It still has a slight bog, but nothing like before. It pulls the front wheel up now which it couldn't do before, because the bike was bogging so bad.

All the people that replied are very knowledable, and know there stuff, but if you're not down with cutting up your bike then you have to try something else like I did.

I can see why your bike would come off the line harder than before since you beefed up the pilot circuit. But, I would be interested to see what the roll on is like since you are running a 132 main. But, that is hard to figure out if you are not running one with the 158 or 160 and then yours.

    JJ,
I would love for you to see what a truly modified bike runs like... The mods the article suggested are only the tip of the ice berg... what awaits underneath is 90% more power with a full modification. jmho.
    later...

Van, you've almost convinced me to do the mod's. Oh yeah, I haven't see the screws yet, did you get a chance to send them?

Sorry bro, after 4 weeks in the mail they were returned due to the wrong postage. I have resent them with the proper amount so you should get them soon... do the air box... do the air box... do the air box.
