    Polishing the frame

    by crf~rob » Tue Feb 20, 2007 12:21 am

    Hi all,
I just got back from Ocotillo Wells and had a great Presidents day weekend! Thanks to a lot of you for the awesome tips on increasing the performance of my bike. I REALLY noticed a huge performance jump after only a few mods.

    Well...onto my question.
I want to polish out my frame (I saw a CRF250 polished out and it looked sweet :D )

I was hoping that there would be some suggestions on the the best/least labor intensive(LOL) way to do it. I was told to use 600 grit sandpaper then Mothers Aluminum polish, is this the right way to do it, or should I be doing something different?

My Bro just got his 250X and took it on this trip for his 1st ride on his new bike. We cant thank CRF's Only, and the board community for the help and support! Thanks all

Just remember that aluminium dulls very fast.
I don't think there is an easy way to do it on the bike. The best way would be to remove it totally and power buff it free standing.
I have had a CBR600 frame polished and it did look very good. All the 'rough' parts of the frame (uppers) have to be smoothed out, then a three stage polish is applied... not cheap... not easy.
It ran about $300 after I delivered the bare frame
    later...

Not a chance. There is no way polishing aluminum could generate that kind of heat. You'd melt the damn buffer first....
