Got a '06 250X that needs new tires. Stockers have run their course. Anyway, been doing research on the web for advice and am very frustrated. Every tire that people are stokked on is not available in the right size for the 250x. I really would like to stick to 100/100/18 rear and 80/100/21. All my riding is in the desert (every type of terrain). Thanks for the help.

Go with the Dunlop 739.

It's available in the stock sizes and made for your terrain.

Also the Maxxis IT comes in the stock sizes.

I would buy the 'right' tire for your bike. What comes stock on the bike my be only what Honda had readily available at the time. Changing a tire size by 10mm etc. won't effect the handling or cause any significant difference. It may even make it handle better! Go to your tire dealership, explain the terrain you ride etc, and have them dial up a tire that is right for YOU. That is the beauty of having the choices to custom a bike for your own rides! I currently ride soft to mid terrain, lots of roots and water and therefore a stock tire may not be the best choice... it would go the opposite way for a guy that rides hard desert with rocks etc...

Dunlop 739AT's frnt & rear for your Dezert Pleazure................

Thanks for the advice guys. As far as the 739 goes, it seems that everyone is suggesting the 739AT not the reg. 739. The AT is not available in my size but the regular version is. What's the difference? Thanks again.

AT = All Terrain.
The 739 comes in four or five different types. The 'letters' after the numbers indicate terrain style.
The article I have says the 739AT is a great intermediate/hard terrain tire. I don't think your going to really see a difference between the AT and a reg. 739. The main consideration is you don't want to buy a tire that is made for soft or soft/mid terrain. (Like the 739 F or 739 G)

The AT is has a very stiff sidewall. I believe that is not the case with the regular one. It is 7 ply. The regular 739 is for less hard-packed and rocky conditions. If you ride desert/rocks and hard terrain, then get the AT not the regular. You can contact Dunlop directly and ask them the differences. (800) 845-8378

Ok...so the 739AT is available in a 110/100/18. Even though this is not the stock size, will I be ok. I read some people say "ya its fine" while others say "stay with stock..your bike will have to work harder". Hence the pulling of the hair. Ya, I know its just a tire and of course I'm not going mad, just want to make the right purchase. Thanks.

You will be fine... 10mm is not that much. The AT seems like a better tire than stock as per a few boys on this site. Go with the masses and get the AT!
