    CLARK GAS TANK ????

    by TeamThrasher » Sun Jan 21, 2007 6:13 pm

I found OEM CRF 250R gas tanks for $180 at www.another site.com. On their advertisement they say it won't fit a 250x. If it's an OEM tank shouldn't it fit with a little seat trim? anyone????

180$ buys you a new Clarke 3.0gallon tank, and the model 1449 fits both the X and R.

I saw that there was a 2 gal. tank. One similar if not identical to the one that comes on the "R". My reason for wanting the R tank is because I'm in the middle of the X to R conversion.

    I've got a stupid question....
Why do people convert their X's to R's?
Is it to have an "R" bike with an electric start? Or, is it to have an "R" with a green sticker?
What exactly does the conversion entail? I know the gearing is different, but how extensive is the rest of it?

Thanks and pardon my ignorance on this subject.

Here is what I have done and what I plan on doing.

    what I've done:
*Stripped off odometer, front light, upper clamps, stock exhaust, stock tire, rear fender and light, tuned rear suspension.

*TAG Upper clamp and mar mounts
    *TAG T2 aluminum bars
    *FMF powercore ti
    *Cycra Front number plate
    *Cycra CRF 250R Rear fender
*Steel braided CRF 250 R brake line
    *Adjusted Rear Suspension

    Plans for next month:
    Boysen Quickshot
    Air Box Mod
Stage 1 hot cam (CRF-R cam)
    JD jet kit
    emissions block off kit

My reason for the conversion is because I received a 2006 X for my 21st birthday from my dad and didn't have the heart to trade it in for the R. I ride a lot of track so all the extra stuff is just bulk and extra weight. The green sticker is definitely nice! will that tank fit or what?????

The clarke 3.0 is nice if you plan on riding any desert. If you have or plan on getting WC radiator guards prepare to trim your right side quite a bit too for the tank to clear and sit right.

I DON'T WANT THE 3.0 TANK!!! From what i've heard the CRF 250R tank bolts right up to the x. Clarke has a replica oem tank (2.0 gals) for the R. I just want to know if it will fit my x.

I have a 250r tank on my 2004 250x. It is just the top mount needs to be changed over from the X tank to the R tank so it will fit.

I also changed the petcok(sp?) so it has reserve.

I got the tank off ebay for around $90, it was off a 2005 if that makes any difference. I would think that any year R tank would though.

No, I didn't trim my seat, it looks pretty good the way it is.
Also, just incase I go back to the stock X tank, it wont look to small.
All in all, it would probably look better to cut the seat down.

The "R" tank is a lot more narrow. I ride a lot of track and have no need for such a large tank. I like to ride as close to the front of the bike as I can. The R is 2.0 gal. and the X is 2.2 gal correct me if I'm wrong

are you going to keep the electric start system on there? taking the battery out sure makes a difference in the air. (I did the same thing you are planning on doing i just went a little farther i think). If you are good with metal you can take of the starter and fab a plate to cover the hole. then you have a bike that is quite a bit lighter.

I dont know the reason that everyone else does it, but i did it for the green sticker reason. Unfortuanetly, the frame, suspension, and gearing are all tuned more for trail riding not moto-x, so that kinda sucks for me and whoever else uses it for that, but whatever, the biggest i hit are 80 footers and the 250x is definatly stong enough to take that.
