I have a stock '04 250X and am not sure I want to open the air box and re-jet right now. The bike starts quickly and runs great right now. However, I would like a little more power. I'm thinking about getting a new or newer 250R or 450X within the year and don't want to spend alot on this one should I decide to sell. Question is... what will I get by simply installing the Twin Air Power Flow system along with the Boyesen Quick shot APC?

From what I've learned it would appear that those mods wouldn't produce much before you open the airbox (to let your new air filter do its work) and re-jet so the Boyesen Quickshot can help out. Opening the airbox and rejetting seem to produce 90% of your performance gains from a stock bike. Maybe taking out the backfire screen as well. If you're money conscious I wouldn't bother with the Boyesen APC. Opening the airbox and rejetting are simple mods (I was surprised at how easy it was) with all the info on this site and help from the members. The power increase is startling and it will start even better!

Ok...so I'll open the air box and re-jet. Now, with that done, is it necessary to install the Power Flow? What if I take out the backfire screen? What concerns does that bring up?

The Twin Air Power Flow air filter allows more air to flow through (less restrictive). Taking the backfire screen off the airfilter cage opens up the flow even further.
Make sure when you get the Twin Air, you get the one with flame retardant foam. No worries.
