    Tire Wear?

    by amnt » Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:01 am

How can you tell if you need to replace tires? I purchased a used bike and the tires are worn but I do not know the % because of previous wear. What is the best way to tell if I would benefit from new tires?

Also, I see a lot of discussion on tires for soft terrain but does anyone have suggestions on tires for rocky or hard terrain?

You will always benefit from new tires...

Its a budget thing, if you can afford new tires get em, if you can't, run what you got.

    Hard / Rocky tires

Rears: 110/100-18 Dunlop 739 AT or
Maxxis IT (trying them out now)

    Front: Michelin MT-18HD or
    Dunlop 756RR.

I was talking with a guy in the shop yesterday. He said that the Metzler MC4 was the same tread design as the Dunlop 756, but lasts considerably longer than the Dunlop. Has anyone ridden with the Metzler that can confirm this?

Running Dunlop 739's on mine through the rocky stuff and they last pretty good, also make sure you get those heavy duty tubes to go with it.

    Tire Wear?

    by amnt » Mon Jan 15, 2007 8:21 am

~, I have heard a lot of talk about the 739AT and it seems to be highly recommended. However, I do seem to remember that you had some trouble installing this tire a few weeks ago. How did that affect your perception of the tire? Is it a tire I should have someone put on (will it be worth the cost?)

Thank you for your feedback on this tire.

    Hell Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

That tire is so damn hard. The sidewalls are like stone.

I fought that thing for an hour just getting it off! I love the tire, great hookup, great wear, never a flat. But if I run them again, I'll pay the install, whatever it is.
