    Bottom of the carb?

    by glacierskier » Thu Jan 11, 2007 12:40 pm

Problem 2006 250x. Possibly clogged pilot jet.

I believe the 4 bowl screws are the only screws that need to be removed to get the bottom of the carb off?

Is that what we are talking about to work on the carb without removing it?

    Is that correct?

Also what is the best way to clean the carb and pilot jet?

    Thanks, David

There is a fifth screw that holds the Idle adjust bracket that must be removed as well. On the front, left side of carb.

You can access the pilot and main from just the 17mm plug in the bottom of the float bowl once the carb is loosened and twisted.

The best way to clean is to remove jets, soak a bit in carb cleaner or Lacquer thinner and blow through them backwards with compressed air. They also make jet cleaners. Small gauge wire that can poke through the orifices.

    Stainless steel Allen head Screws.

    These are the sizes:

Idle-adjust bracket - replace stock screw with M4x10 and M4 lock washer.
Float bowl - replace four stock M4x14 screws with M4x16 screws (no one seems to stock the M4x14 in stainless) plus M4 lock washers. If you don't use lock washers, one of the M4x16s will not fit; use an M4x12 instead.
