Rear tire question for a 250X

    by paoutdoorsman » Tue Dec 19, 2006 7:48 am

Hey guys, Has anyone jumped the rear tire up to a 110/100 or 120/100 on 250X successfully? The stock 100/100 Dunlop 756 seems to break loose a bit too easily and I'm wondering if a meatier tire will help that.

We are using a 110/100 Dunlop 739AT. No issues. Very tough tire.

    Agent,

Is that on your 450X or a 250X?

I am looking at the Michelin S-12 130/80-18, converts to 110/100 from Dunlop sizing.

    Matt,

    That is on our 250X.

The S-12 is about 5.12" wide and the sidewall is 4.09" high.

The Dunlop is 4.33" wide and the sidewall is 4.33" high.

They don't really crossover. I think the thought process is with more sidewall, comes more rim protection.

But since we are talking about less than a quarter inch, I don't think it's that signifigant.

Also be careful about putting on too much tire for the 250X engine to be able to turn effectively.

Over an inch wider than stock puts alot more meat on the dirt.

    The 120/90-18 should work fine.

    4.72" wide and 4.25" sidewall.

Pretty close to the 110/100-18 Dunlop.

I went to the 110 last winter. Only issue I have had is that it ever so slightly rubs on the antifreeze overflow bottle if/when you bottom out. Since then I've made some adjustments on my shock settings and it's a non issue now, but was curious to see black rub-marks on the overflow bottle all the sudden, until I realised where they were coming from. (aaah).

I run a 110/100 18 Maxxim and it's great. The intermediate terrain one. Don't know the number. My dealer was out of the Dunlop 756 that came stock on the bike. The new tire is definately larger but looks cool and works great. I'm 180 lbs. and have had no rubbing issues.

None, for me I think the S-12 crap. The tire handles real well, but doesn't last that long if your riding woods and area with some rocks. In the sand and mud it might last a long time. I think when I had mine, I only got about 7 good rides out of it. We just put a Maxxis on it. We put the 100/100/18 on it. I have heard a lot of good things about the Maxxis.

I just bought a Maxxis IT 110/100-18 for .'s 250X yesterday at CycleGear. $ 59. I'm putting it on today as her Dunlop 739AT is wasted after only 1000 miles!!

Gonna try it tomorrow at Rowher. XGiant is in the southland visiting relatives for XMas. He is driving up for a little ride at Rowher and is riding my 450X.

I'm gonna have a hard enough time keeping up with a 250X, but with a bald tire I wouldn't stand a chance.

Meeting at about 10:00am, same basic ride as last time, you game???

My wife said no riding until 07, but I think I'm going try hitting her up for that. I will let you know.

I had ESP put the tire on. He told me the 100/100/18 would be a better tire then the 756 110/100/18 I had on it. He said on hills the 110/100/18 likes to lift the front up more on hills on the 250X, so I went with the 100/100/18. The tire was $56.00 from George.

Good info for a "new to CRF250X" rider. Just picked up my 04 earlier this week which will need a new rear tire soon.
