Picked the bike up from the shop yesterday,

Last night I pulled the head, wasn't as bad as I was thinking it would be.

Turned the head upside down, put some lite soapy water over the valves, used an air gun in the side intake.
    Left hand was fine.
Right hand intake made a bubble bath LOL

At least I know what's leaking.

As I have zero to lose, going to clean it up a bit and give a lite lap job to that valve and seat.

Some really fine grit around the top of the piston rings.

    Piston looked ok.

Going to clean all that up and put new rings on IF the cylinder looks/feel ok.

Oh, and if there is no play on the bottom end.

    So many "ifs"

    Otherwise,
    New bottom end
    Big bore
    New head
    :)

    Soooo,

Been super busy of late, and any free time, I've been riding the R, the poor X has been left to wait.....

Though it's all sorted now, and took it out for a test ride today.

Turned out to be the Fing spring in the cam chain tensioner!!!
It was kind of working, but no where near as strong as it should, and the cam chain was also a little loose. Replaced both, and good to go.

This is after I lapped the valve, changed the rings and checked the TPS, which all did nothing to fix the issue.

Man, what a lot of time over a little a$$ spring LOL.

As I have an all but rebuilt carb with a new power bowl, checked head, new rings etc etc.
Had the bike put on a dyno to check/get 100% right the jetting.

It has, and I really mean this, zero bog, best it's ever run.
That said, I've got used to using my 14 R for everything, even trail rides, and the X feels slow in the way it spins up next to it......

What jetting did you end up with?
Your jets are upside down on that side of the world, but I want to compare notes.

Makes it easier to change the jets. I suppose you guys turn the bike upside down to get to them.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

    Lol

Had/has a JD jetting kit already installed with the red needle installed clip on 3rd position

"Now" Dropped the needle 1 position

No change to the #42 slow jet

Main jet changed from #165 to #168

    Leak jet set to #50

Peak power of 30hp @ 10000rpm, which holds/very small drop till end of rev range

    Jetting changes made a change of 1.38hp @ 100000
Old jetting went flat at 9000rpm

    Other things to note,
100 hours on the 08R cam, 07R head and piston.
    New rings
    270 hours on bottom end

That is a good increase in power for a main jet change. You have to be happy with that.

Does it sound happy now at high revs?

I missed the '07 head part. That flows a little better and likes a fatter jet.
