I was looking at grabbing a SS filter, but I just outweighed it to the classic paper filters.

Now, I'm going to have to get a 116 and compare the two. I did have one that had a loose fit and thought "odd". I just swaped out the gromet with the old one and all was good. Guess I need to check this out.

the 116 has a larger diameter and according to a contact in k&n have a pressure relief valve that the 115 doesn't. the theory being if the filter were to get clogged enough the pressure relief valve would let unfiltered oil pass through realizing unfiltered oil is better on an engine than no oil.

up till now i've only carried the k&n and scotts oil filters. it sounds like many of you trust the hi-flo filters. i think it's time to offer another alternative. i'll get them in and add them to our catalog.

Yea, I too think that would be great. A lot of people says the HiFlo are made by the K&N folks. Wonder if your contact can settle this myth?
I think the oil circuit/housing already has a built in oil by-pass.

i've researched the hi-flo and k&n both made by k&n and what i've been able to uncover is they MAY be made at the same plant this makes filters for various companies based on that company's specifications and design. as near as i can tell this is where the myth comes from. there are so many things that could be different from paper quality and filtration capabilities to construction materials and assembly techniques. i've always used the k&n and have had great success with them but it sounds like others are having a similar experience with hi-flo so i might as well offer an alternative paper filter. choice is a good thing...right? besides then we'll be able to follow up the "which radiator guard is the best" thread with a "which filter is the best".

Perhaps you can get some micron and pressure relief info while you are poking around the filter shops? That would be very good info when making a choice. Of course, most of us change them so often (like the oil) that they probably don't ever see enough contamination to be of consequence, but it doesn't hurt to be aware.

yes...due to contamination but it's possible that there could be a filter failure but not likely.

in any event i now have in stock the hiflo filters (hf116) for those you prefer those to the k&n filters we've been offering. here's a link:

This oil filter stuffs been beat on more than the "which oil" topic. In summary, I found:

    K&N and Hi-Flo's are the same. Except K&N's are 2x the $.
The stainless filters are re-usable, but lack the filtering ability that synthetic paper offers. Stainless filters are good to 0.035" particles filtered at high 90's %-wise. Paper is <0.020" all day. BTW - 0.025" is the standard distance between critical bearing surfaces...

Choice is good, unfortunately none of the quality oil filter manufacturers make filters for our Honda's. Mobil, Amsoil, Purolator, etc...all are top quality oil filter manufacturers; none have an application for us. I'm really surprised that Amsoil doesn't...bummer.
