    Gearing...

    by Fic230M » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:44 am

I have 230M and ride it almost daily back and forth to work. I have some highway riding during my commute and have to hold it wide open the whole time to keep up with traffic at 65-70mph. Should I change my sprockets for more top end speed, an if so what kind of tooth count should I be running front/back? Im not even sure what the stock tooth count is on this bike. The bike doesn't have a ton of low end torque as it is, would I be losing a lot of it with this type of change?

use our speed/rpm/gear calculator to determine what's the best gearing for you:

This link is awesome! It's so cool to be able to enter alternate gear ratios and have it tell you exactly what gains, or losses you create. I think in my case I would like to run a 15 tooth front sprocket with a 35 tooth rear to allow my 230M to run at highway speed without being wide open the whole time. According to the chart this setup would allow me to run around 70mph at a more comfortable 6500rpm rather than buzzing along at 7500rpm. The problem I am having is finding the sprockets for my bike. Any suggestions on where to get them? try searching by model and nothing close shows up. only 14 fronts and like 48-50 rears. Stock rear is a 38 and I don't even see those listed when I search. Help?
