CRF's Only Forums

Hi all.

My partner is currently looking to buy her first bike. She has been riding an old 86 XR100 and is looking to upgrade however as she is a smaller build she has decided she wants a CRF230 (opted to stay away from the TTR230 as the are hideous in our opinion!) only drama is we don't know which version would suit her best?!? I personally like the F as I think it is a bit more of an all purpose bike however I am an enduro rider and own a registered 450 (Australian ADR Laws) so I also think the L is a good option as she can ride on the road with me. In Aus we can only register the L not the F. So I'm wondering is this the only advantage to buying the L over the F? She is 5ft10", 60-65kg & we will hopefully be doing a range of riding from bush to mx tracks and if we get the L the possibility or road. Any insight as to which is a better bike or a better all rounder would be greatly appreciated.

well, the 230f is definatly more dirt capable. its lighter weight and when it falls over, its less likely for something to break (cus of all the street stuff on the L.) the F also has better suspension with more travel. and if your gonna be on mx tracks, the L is gonna stick out like a sore thumb. on the other hand, if you want to ride on the street, the L is your only option. and i agree, the crf230 is WAYY better than the ttr. hope this helps, good luck

The L only advantage is it can be registered in Qld.
That is about to get dearer post election.

The F is a good bush bike, pity it never was ADR'd so we could use them like our old XRs.

She would probably love a big wheel version of the CRf150R as it has better suspension and more go.

It really depends on how much you want the road use.
