    Suspension

    by Buryurfear14 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 7:43 am

Looks like none of the L and M riders are posting on here. Lets get it going!

Rode my bike through some serious muddy and rough sections this past weekend. Ended up being around a 100mile ride that took the whole day!

After seeing what my bike handled compared to the 450+ bikes, I'm impressed and intend on hanging on to this bike.

Suspension is its BIGGEST flaw. One of the only things I've heard to do is swap out the forks for the 230F forks and run emulators and BBR springs. It gives you 1.5" more travel as well.

Just wondering if anyone else has tinkered with the front end to make an improvements... It seems finding used 230F forks is not easy.

welcome to CRF's Only! i agree, not enough posting going on the 230L/M forum. you can help change that...wait you already have with this post! ;-)

sounded like you had a great ride! that's what it's all about...just getting out, riding and having fun.

to your question, i wish there were direct replacements available that would bring the suspension up to par with the off-road/motocross CRF's. unfortunately, there isn't.

you mentioned what appears to be the best solution currently, 230F forks with Race Tech emulators and BBR springs. this solution improves the travel and suspension action while maintaining balance with the rear shock.

some have swapped in CR85/CRF150R forks which requires new triple clamp/stem work. this of course is a huge improvement over stock but worsens the suspension balance with the rear shock being even more deficient by comparison.

well, the only thing the 230F and the 230L/M share is the displacement. not completely true but almost. however, the 230F suspension needs work for aggressive riding too. but it would have been nice to have it share more of the 230F as there are a lot more aftermarket parts available.
