    Suspension Lowering Kit 150rb

    by bgdesign » Tue Sep 18, 2018 4:52 pm

I am starting a project 150rb. I am a lightweight at 130lb and the stock suspension for off road riding seems to be damped appropriately. I want to lower the bike for supermoto and dirt track use. I spoke with suspension guru Dave Moss who said to find a kit to change the internals but I cannot find one for a 150rb. I have looked into sending the suspension out to be revalved and it is cost prohibitive. What options are available, I can't fathom that there isn't a cheaper route with this being such a popular supermoto/dirt track platform.

Normally suspension specialists machine up their own parts to lower suspensions. How many inches are you chasing to lower it?
Generally in the form of washer placed to limit travel.

Are you lowering to be able to touch the ground or trying to lower centre of gravity?

Assuming to be able to touch.
Have you adjusted your rear sag, your owners manual tell you how.
If it is currently set stiff/high you may gain back some distance.
Perhaps use the wheels from small wheel version.
That is what I did when my son was riding a CR80. As he grew the big wheels went back on.
Lower the seat by shaving down the foam might give you enough too. Every little bit helps. Let us know how you go.

I am building a show bike but I want to retain the functionality and be able to take it to supermoto tracks and dirt tracks and have a good time with it.

I want to lower it about 3 inches, how can I find the stock suspension settings to establish a baseline and adjust it from there? I am not the original owner and do not have the owners manual.

You can download the owners manual, use to be direct from Honda but think that has changed but still available.
    What year is it?

If you want to lower by as much as 3 inches I believe not only will the internals of the fork and shock need being done but revalving would be required as you would be ridding in a different part of the stroke.
Why do you want to lower the bike?
Three inches is a lot of travel to take out if you want to still ride on dirt.

That really helps, I found mb1suspension.com that offers both revalving and lowering service for both the forks and rear shock. At first I thought if I could find a machinist to create custom spacers I would be able to install them and cut the springs myself but this service looks like it will be relatively affordable and for sure have the suspension properly sorted rather than guessing and trying to work with the limited range of adjustment on the shock.

Thank you, the manual is a wonderful resource.

I am lowering the bike both to make it for supermoto use and for aesthetics. As the build progresses I will be sure to document my progress in another thread.
