hi all,
im running a 08 450r with 5 inch rear rim, have been getting alot of chain slap on the rim. i run a 170/55 dunlop race tyre and i've got a fair bit of clearance to the chain. i could move the rim over more again but i have about 2mm clearance when running my wet rear tyre (pirelli rain sc1 160/60)
has anyone worked out a good chain guide for the top of the swingarm to stop the chain flying round? has anyone done any sort of chain guide?
maybe my chain is worn so it flops around more, its a did x ring of some description. vt2??
i really want to stop the chain slap because i'm getting a set of marchesini's soon and don't want to wreck them.
i'll take some pics and put them up.

is that the big white guards that they have to pass the ADRs?
i might just buy a new chain to get rid of that issue, its done a fair bit of work.

you can have the rear wheel dished to the right to reduce/eliminate chain slap.

my rear wheel is already pretty dished over to the right.
heres how much clearance i have. on the right it looks like alot but its only 3mm. you'd know how the crf swingarm is sort of a c shape on the inside. makes it look like more clearance.

I made a chain guide for my supermoto....used a piece of aluminum angle and a piece of plastic cutting board(hard, white, slick plastic)...i would post some pics but doesn't look like i can post from my hard drive, url only and i dont have the pics online anywhere...
put pics in my garage...i dont have any close ups of finished product, ill take a few and put them in the garage.

The PO of my bike had a 5" excel w the same KR108 170/55 dunlop. He had chain slap on the rim but after the damage was done added a roller on top of the swingarm.
Not sure how to load a pic on here from my phone but the roller is the same as the lower roller underneath the swingarm. Drill and tap for a bolt to go through to hold the roller or weld a threaded insert on top of the swingarm to act as a long nut for the bolt and roller[/img]

Btw, where are you getting the 170s from? I've only found the 165, heard they don't make the 170s anymore???
