Trail Tech Vapor Installation on a Crf250X step by step

    by Spit51 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:24 pm

I remember seeing a great Trail tech vapor installation guide on a honda CRF with pics somebody had available on line. The setup was sweet, shrink tubing, clean connections, very sano. Does anybody have a link to that? I ordered a Vapor and expect it any day now.

the computer is a discontinued Lynx but the principle is the same. mount the billet protector between the bar mounts.

Love the computer Ken. Had it on for 2 years now and its still working flawlessly... Its a conversations starter for people I ride with that have never seen one before. I ride a lot of tight technical woods and its good to know when I'm getting to hot. And the top speed function is fun for the long straight runs.

I had a mean head on collision with another bike that sent both of us over the bars. Destroyed my headlight and the stock odometer bracket but the Billet case for the Vapor held on with no damage. If I ever do break my Vapor, I will be buying the new GPS voyager model no doubt

wow...you and it survived a head on collision...impressive. i've done a lot of crashing and the scariest is the head on collision. hopefully you weren't (fixed) injured seriously.

I think you meant to say "weren't" instead of "were" LOL

Ya I was going down a steep hill around a corner and he was coming up. We both locked up the brakes but front tires hit. We smashed helmets mid-air(ruining my contourHD camera lens). We got pretty lucky. New bars and levers for both of us and new radiator for the other guy but no major physical body damage(just mental haha). I was shaking the rest of the ride that day. Scared the crap out of myself.

glad to hear you were NOT injured. scary thing those head on collisions. do you have video of the crash then? i never have my video camera on when i have a really good crash.

Trail Tech Vapor Post Installations Comments

    by Spit51 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 6:21 am

I finished installing the unit late yesterday. After receiving a prompt reply from Trail Tech Support regarding grounding instruction for the ground tach wire, I read through my installation instruction and there does not exist any reference regarding the Tach Ground Wire. Trail Tech needs to revise the CRF250X installation instructions if they haven't already done so.
The Power wire is four inches short. I bought some additional wire and added it to the power wire that came with the kit. I added connectors to the end of the main power wires to make a good clean fit. Crimped, soldered and heat shrink to make sure I don't have to deal with it a few years down the road.
I like to computer, the functions and the price is fair. The stock mount has me a little nervous, but we shall see in the coming weeks.

Did you not buy the Billet protector? It works pretty good for me. Held up well in a few sticky situations.

Nope, didn't buy it, but I am having second thoughts.
Just took it for the first post installation test ride and it worked flawlessly.

Where would I find the billet mount?

we do sell the billet protector...however, don't have them in stock currently. we were supposed to have them today but trail tech found an issue with the external antenna. so they are hoping to ship them by the end of the week. so early next week i hope to have them in stock.
