    How I hyper-extended my ankles..

Watch the landing on the last jump - unfortunately I was on the balls of my feet. When the suspension completed all its travel, both ankles dropped from the compression. Doh.

The landing doesn't look bad, but the problem was the hyper extension on both ankles, the tendons and ligaments were severely stretched beyond normal.

I must disagree with your idea that if you were on your arches it wouldn't have happened. You should be riding on the balls of your feet most of the time. Only when you are shifting should you slide your feet forward on the pegs. In few exceptions like going down steep hills or under hard braking you might be forward. For the most part if you are on the balls of your feet you have the ability to raise up and absorb hits with your anckle pivoting and giving added suspension to landings. Don't know what you did wrong but my thoughts are you may have been back on your ankles with no movement left in them. Stand tall on the balls and you may have absorbed the impact better. On flat landings I also throttle hard which helps to keep bike moving forward instead of all the impact going straight down. A lot of technique comes into play to keep the impact level low.

you can disagree all you want, but the fact is i was on the balls of my feet, on toes. thus when i cased it, not hard on the throttle, the suspension had all it's travel, then all the inertia had slammed me down - thus both ankles were hyper-extended. watch the ending closely, you'll see.

i always ride on the balls of my feet. yet when i land i'll slightly adjust to the arches so any inertia is transferred throughout my entire legs, not isolated.

absolutely agree with the technique, just forgot utilize it on landing...lol. like i said, it's been about 18 years...it'll come back...lol.

i wish i could say the same.

just imagine standing on a bar on your toes, and getting thrown down about 6 foot. now when your ankles have met their limit of travel, imagine someone dropping a 300lb weight in your hands. all that down force and no more travel in your ankles...not good. lol.

the good news is the heat seems to really be helping the blood flow.

Sorry to hear about the hard landing. Hope you recoup fast.

I see you have an '07. Freshened the suspension yet?

Actually, had this happened on the first weekend I got to take it out. Doh.

I purchased the bike with approx. 7 hours. The only thing the only had done was the suspension. It is setup for a guy about 5lbs less than me. He is getting me the contact information for the company that did the suspension.

Your kidding right? If that landing hurt your ankles, you might want to check with your doctor before riding again...

I know I'm supposed to ride on the balls of my feet.
I hurt my ankles every time. They're both screwed from football and Being OFG prolly doesn't help either.
