    nedirtbikr's other passion...

    by nedirtbikr » Fri Oct 05, 2007 8:04 pm

We're hittin' the track tomorrow and plan on taking some video. Was going through my video stuff and found this. My final dive for certification. It was originally edited by my instructor, but I changed a few things and shortened it to make it watchable. I was going to change the music, but I guess it was pretty appropriate.

I know it's not "exactly" a riding video, but I thought I'd share it with my CRfs family anyway (I hope I didn't break any rules!) I think people who ride dirt can appreciate the "exhiliration" factor.

    That's really cool Mark.
Always maintain that good healthy fear. Enjoy the great fun that it is, but keep the healthy fear.
A buddy who happens to be a German Special Forces type put it very well, and this guy has done a ton of HALO jumps, etc, way more qualified to speak on it than me who has done only the minimum military only jumps to stay qualified over the years.
He said that it's strange hearing about how experienced fatalities are frequently, it's more often than not somebody who was making their 3 zillionth jump or so. You'd think that this type of jumper is so experienced nothing would ever happen that they couldn't handle, or that they'd never miss anything. That is wrong .
The new jumper is double and triple checking everything, then having someone else double and triple checking everything. The new jumper is constantly reviewing his plan, the contingency plan etc.etc. The old salt may tend to just pat everything down real quick and think they're ready to go. Not the way do it.
So enjoy yourself, the great endorphin rush it is. Just remember it's good to be scared and to then do it anyway.
Kind of like another hobby we have, right ? :D Doug

That's for sure about the "experienced" guys getting hurt more than the new ones. Double, Triple check...that's me...even today!

Thanks for the reply Doug. Like I said, I know it's not exactly riding, but I like sharing whatever might be worthy. Hopefuilly, we'll get some good footage today at the track I can share.

I watched the video several times Mark and I still don't see the smoke or flames coming from the engine???

I mean the plane was on fire right??

Why else would a sane, albeit R rider, individual jump from an aircraft?

You're just too damn funny!  Actually, if you really saw this plane, you wouldn't question the desire to get out.

If you watch the video real close and pause it at the 2:43 mark, you'll see where the wing strut is attached to the fuselage. On my honor...I $hit you not...that is duct tape there where the strut meets the fuselage...DUCT TAPE! No $hit! Anyway, it's way fun...not the same fun as dirtbiking, but pretty cool. Everyone should do it at least once in their lives.

OK, you're certifiable! I would like to try that but the chute would have to be one of those double rigs that they drop Jeeps with! :)

Very cool! Personally, I think the music is perfect. Something I have always had "some" desire to do ... on my bucket list I guess. A bit less apealing at 51 than it was at 31.

    Congrats!
