    cam bolts.

    Hi,
    I am trying to adjust my valves and am having a bit of difficult getting the cam bolts off.
    I am using a 5.5mm allen socket the 6 seems a little big. Is there a special tool for loosening these bolts?
    Or does anybody have any tips for removing these?

    no special tools required to remove the cam holder bolts.

    You do mean the cam gear bolts since those are Allen head. You can put the bike in gear and hold the rear brake so the gear doesn't spin and you should be able to loosen bolts. If you position the gear correctly to get the best leverage against the rotation of the wrench it helps. Or use a gear jam tool. Or hit them carefully with an impact driver.

    yes I mean the allen head cam bolts. Do you happen to know the allen head size? the 5.5 I have seems to fit but I'm a little worried I'm going to strip the bolt.
    I have been able to lock up the wheel to stop it rotating, but it seems like the alled head isnt locking in there quite right.

    i can't remember the size. don't use a ball-end allen wrench and you'll be fine as long as you get the correct fitting allen wrench. a medium strength thread locker should have been used. if someone used a high strength thread locker that would require heat to remove.

    Thanks guy, the 6mm worked great, I think I was just being to carefully. Unfortunately I have another question.
    After measuring the shims
    my left intake requires a 1.24mm shim but the right needs a 1.15mm, I can use the 1.2mm shim to get my clearance to .13mm which in just inside the .16 +/- .03mm
    Or I can use a 1.25 and make the clearence .18mm
    Which size do you recommend?
    And why is the required shim smaller than the minimum size available

    Your math isn' t "subtracting down" to me correctly. A larger shim will make the clearance smaller.

    Apologies,
    I tried to work the formula backwards and didn't realize that its not valid when the new shim is bigger than the old
