Last week i was in Moab. We were riding a trail where we had to cross a creak and when we were coming back the creak had risen. When i rode across it my bike died half was across. when i got it to shore we took the from wheel in the air and water came out on the exhaust. I got it started but it had to idle for a good 25 minutes before i could give it any throttle. I was able to ride it after that, but it sounds different. Wondering what i need to check to make sure everything is ok with it. Thanks

possibly. typically you should not start it until you are sure all of the water is evacuated from the combustion chamber. on the trail this means removing the spark plug, turn the bike upside down and letting the water drain. if the water was muddy then you shouldn't start it for risk of serious engine damage. you should now make sure there isn't any water in the engine and transmission oils. if there is you'll have to cycle oil through the engine until the oil isn't milky. remove the valve cover and make sure there isn't any water there. check the engine vent hoses don't have water in them. the difference in the sound could just be the muffler packing being wet and/or affected by being wet.
