    Sticky Hot-start lever.

    by blackj » Tue Nov 01, 2011 10:51 am

I noticed last Saturday that my hot-start lever isn't returning to the closed position when released.
Which causing my to have exactly the same problems as discribed in similar posts here.

Can anybody give me an example of the cleaning process to free up the cable?
    Thanks

the hot start nut at the carb is plastic and is known to break in hard crashes which impact the hot start lever. check this and if broken replace with the hot start nut we offer which is made from billet aluminum. if this is not the issue, remove the cable, noting the routing so you can reinstall it correctly, and clean and lube the internal cable and lever mechanism. make sure there aren't any kinks in the cable housing. also clean the end of the cable and the hot start plunger that inserts into the carb. the plunger is also known to corrode (dissimilar metal corrosion). reassemble cable and hot start plunger. all should be well now.

Thanks for the info, I actually ordered a hot start nut from you guys yesterday. I'm not sure if mine is broken but I did dump it pretty hard a while back after having to rev it hard to stop it from cutting out when idling after a hot-start.
I think I may not have noticed the hot-start lever sticking that time.

    Thanks again

some times the hot start lever where it connects to the clutch lever gets pinched and just requires a loosening of the nut there
