    metal flakes in trans oil

    by mr.skywalker » Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:53 pm

I just bought an 07 crf150r and i drained the oil and it has small little metal flakes in it. they have a gold color, but i cant think of anything that is made of brass or copper that would be this color and is in the transmission. The bike runs and shifts perfect. the only thing i can think of would possibly be the clutches. The guy had just installed new ones before i got it from him.

Ill be flushing the system and pulling cover off to inspect it all, but if this is a common problem i cant find anything about it.
Does anyone know what would cause this? Thanks in advance

ok so pulled the clutch apart and the springs have some scrapes on the parts in contact with the housing. would this cause this to make the gold colored flakes? also some of the flakes had an aluminum color after and one of the clutch parts had some scrapes(looks like the previous owner was an idiot and damaged it a bit) So is that all it could be, or should i check something else? im gonna rinse out everything very well before putting it all back together.
