    Watering Down a 150R?

    by RockstarSMP » Fri Aug 28, 2009 10:15 pm

Basically, my ex is learning how to ride and her new 150r is too much, so I need to know how to water down a 150R for someone that is learning. I think there's a bigger, fly wheel I can get so I need an exact suggestion on that. And hotcams makes a Stage 1, but I'm not sure that lowers the rpm power enough. I'm thinking a softer suspension would be good too, she won't be jumping anytime soon.

*I just thought of a Rekluse clutch! I bet that'd help a ton, especially when combined with a flywheel...

A little background on her experience:
I'm still friends with her, and she has about 1/2 dozen experiences on a TTR125 from last season. Until today, she hasn't ridden for about 6 months, and she just bought a crf150r Expert yesterday because some dummy said it'd be perfect for her, against my strong suggestion of a 230f, which would probably be the best bike to learn on. Oh well.

    Thanks!

Adjust the throttle stop on the carb, if you put a hot cam in that bike even you wouldn't be able to handle it, leave the motor stock.

Have the suspension set for her weight, that will help a lot. You could gear it for top end, and try to remove some bottom end there... Up a tooth in the front and up 1 more in the rear ought to do it.

We just added the steahly 9oz flywheel weight to my son's 150 and it has helped with trackable power, easier to ride in tight woods and in turns on the MX track while not robbing the overall power of the bike. I can not speak to the Rekluse but some on this site have them and like them a lot. I would try the flywheel weight first simply because the cost is $500.00 bucks less that the Rekluse and it is a simple install. The suspension from the factory is set up for a rider between 115-120 lbs.you may just need to set the sag as well as dampen the rebound and compression to give her a softer feel. My sons friend came off of a TTR 125 as well and he is close to a beginner I think I see a flywheel weight in his future as well. Look at the bright side once she learns how to ride the RB she may never have to buy another motorcycle.

    Maybe I should?

Interestingly enough, she wants me back, but didn't listen to my suggestion on a used 230f for now which would be perfect for the desert, but rather listened to some 23 year old kid tell her a new 150r would be perfect... that's going to end up being a $5,000+ bike. Funny, huh?
