does a fly wheel take away from torque or power or speed. i no that they make the bike a bit less jumpy, but i kinda like the jumpyness. would the fly wheel also change the acceleration

if you like the motor as is then leave it as is. adding flywheel weight essentially causes the motor to rev slower and to help reduce the likelihood of stalling.

Both of my kids have a 2008 150RB. My son is 13 and seems to be able to handle the snappy power and tricky clutch. My daughter is 15 and is not as aggressive a rider as my son, but still a reasonably accomplished rider for her age. She struggled from time to time with starts and the tricky clutch. Very sensitive and stalling was frequent. Additionally, kick starting the bike was more of a challenge for her. Yesterday, I installed the 9oz. Steahly Flywheel Weight on her bike. Man was that the ticket! Smooth starts, kicks super easy now. I rode both bikes to compare, one with the flywheel weight (daughters bike) and one without it (sons bike). The difference is hard to describe. No real loss in power, but my daughters bike revs just slightly slower. Still pretty racy, but not as violent as my sons bike. I likened the power feel to a big bore air cooled four stroke (I used to ride a XR600R). Of course not the same power as that, but MUCH more "tractable". If just pulls hard on the low end. No noticeable difference on the top end. Personally, I like the power feel of my daughters bike with the flywheel weight. I imagine it will make it much more manageable on trails, and for her on the track, just easier to get going!

If you are experiencing difficulty with kick starting and the clutch, this is a great investment. Easy to install too.

Sounds like you don't need it highwaystar. If you ride track most of the time, I don't think I'd put it in your bike. For us here in Colorado, it would be great for trail riding in the mountains. Tight woods and such. Easier to manage in that environment and you could make better use of the power. But on the track, once you're rolling, I don't think you'd need it. It might help with corner exits a little, but that's it.

Hey there MightyWhitey, See you're from Denver. :-) Me too. My wife has a 08RB and a 250R. She has been having problems with hanging idle on her 150, which we think we have fixed by running a 45 pilot and adjusting the idle way down. The flywheel weight is supposed to help in this problem also. She has a Rekluse Pro clutch on it also which adds flywheel weight too. If you are looking for something to make your girls bike easier on the trails, you might check into the Rekluse. We run them on all our bikes for MX and love them. Anyway, was wondering what jetting you are running on yours, and if you have experienced the hanging idle issue?

Hey Nick...let's hear it for the Rocky Mountain contingent! Honestly, the jetting on the 150RB's was spot on from the dealer. The hanging idle does happen for the first 10-15 min the bike is running, but when riding all day, it stops doing it. I have not had the flywheel weight on long enough to tell you if it makes a difference. I have not cracked the carb since we got the 150's so I don't know what the jetting is. I'll check it and let you know.

Now for the stupid question of the week...what the he** does a Reckluse clutch do?? I see the on peoples bikes, and referenced on the boards, but I don't have the slightest idea what they do... :?

The Rekluse, by my definition, is the second best mod, next to suspension revalve, that is a must have on all my bikes. What it does: it's a centrifugal clutch, Which uses ball bearings to engage pressure to the clutch plates in a perfect, smooth manner every time. Similar to a CRF50 if you have ever riden one. You dont need to use the clutch to shift or start off , but its there if you need it. Do a search on here for many posts on the subject. You are more than welcome to check our bikes out if you want a test to see how it works and makes riding in any cond. a lot more fun. I could go on and on on the benefits but you really need to experience it to believe.

Thanks Nick. I just went to the Reckluse web site and read about them as well. Sounds very cool. We had both a 50 and a 70 with the centrifugal clutch, so I know what you're talking about now. I can't imagine riding a full size bike with a clutch like that, but I can see where it would make things pretty easy! I'll search the forum for more info. Where in Colorado are you? I might like to take you up on a quick spin on a bike with a Reckluse...Scott
