    Excessive Exhaust Pipe Heating?

    I just bought a new left over 2007 150RB. I have not changed any of the carb. settings as of yet. My question is regarding the pipe at the exhaust port on the head. My question is this-The pipe becomes a "glowing red" color for about 6"of the pipe starting at the head exhaust. It becomes this hot only after a minute or two. It retains it's "red molten glow" for 15 seconds after the bike has been shut down. I have only ridden the bike on 4 short rides-5 minutes or less. It is very hard to start as well, so I am thinking that it may be an air/fuel mixture issue causing it to run lean and hot? Has any experienced this when their 150R was new?

    shim the valves thats why its probably getting hard to start and that red glow is normal for new bikes because the metal on the headerpipe hasn't got used to the heat
    after time when it gets hot it will look like the colour of the header pipe when its cooled but will not be glowing red

    so don't worry its normal with any new bike adjust the valve shims then it will start easier

    Welcome to the site Kurt!!

    No need to start shimming valves on a new bike...you are correct, it's very lean on the pilot circuit.

    The CRF 150R benefits greatly from rejetting. Honda missed the mark with the 2007 CRF 150R and RB's jetting.

    Makes it run way cooler and start easily.

    sorry but i thought when bikes are new the headerpipe glows red sorry my bad

    Kurt,
    I have just bought an 08 for my son and it is going to the mechanic tomorrow to have jetting work done. He just like the Agent blames the hard start and long warm up from cold on the engine starving for fuel.

    Thats normal. especally if you are letting the bike stay started and not riding it. At the indoor racing series we do. at night when the guys are in staging almost every pipe glows red i dont think its very noticable in the day time. but it dont matter if its a new bike or not its gonna do it and it will become obvious in the dark when it justs sits and runs.
