    Kickit stand

    by nhett » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:47 pm

I posted this on another forum but I figured why not post it here also and see if anyone has had similar luck with this product.
    First let me start off by saying that I do enjoy this product reguardless of the swingarm situation, and the fact that it will fall over if I don't position it correctly.. anyway, here is my situation;

I have had the 08 150R small wheel since october, I bought the Kickit stand for it shortly afterwards, and it has managed to chew up the side of my swingarm. It has taken a huge chunk out of it, right where the stand slides up to tuck behind the fender. I notified the company and they said they can send me a larger washer but I never bothered giving them my info because I thought I was the only one, and the damage was done. That was until this past weekend when I went riding with my friend whom recently purchased the same bike except big wheel version, also purchased the Kickit stand for it.. I noticed right away that hers was rubbing also, in the exact same way mine began. Anyone have similar problems with the Kickit stand??

    Here are some pics-

A few weeks ago, I got a little frustrated with the fact that it's still rubbing off metal from my swingarm after the fact that I feel it's already shaven off a pretty deep chunk, so I went out and bought a larger washer for it, yeah it's still rubbing..

    ALSO..
NO I have never had the kickstand out while trying to start my bike, nothing on the stand is bent, never was, nothing was wrong with my swingarm either before this product. and YES it was installed properly.

Nice stand, how much did it run you and where from? I'd personally bend it how some from rubbing anymore than it already has.

we have sold a lot of these kickstands and not a single customer has brought anything like this to our attention. the only issue we've had with it is customers with Big Wheel versions buying the small wheel version of the kick-it and vice versa. that and customers with a big wheel buying the big wheel version after installing a kouba LOWERING link.

not a single customer has complained that it's hitting the swing arm. our 2007 has this kickstand as well and it doesn't rub.

FIRST OFF....IF YOU HAVE THIS LEVEL OF INTERFERENCE, PLEASE REMOVE THE STAND AND CONTACT US AT 1-866-466-4762.

Thank you to Ken for bringing this thread to our attention. I don't think we understood the magnitude of the interference. In the pictures, it does look like the washer is installed between the bottom mount and the kickstand base which would actually move the stand inward and increase the interference. I am not sure who this person spoke with at our shop, but our intent would be to have the user install a spacer in between the frame and the upper mount to move the stand away from the swingarm. Occasionally a customer will have a frame that is slightly different. After seeing the pictures, we have been researching the issue and have found a few more stands that have an interference. We are attempting to determine if there is a difference in swingarms or mounting brackets on various models or years. Occasionally, the manufacturers will make a mid year change to a component. We are not sure this is the case. It would certainly help us if those of you with our kickstand on a 150 would post the year and model of your bike. Is it an 07 or an 08 and is it a big wheel or small wheel and is there a rubbing issue? This will help us narrow it down.

We are working on a solution for this issue and will respond as soon as we determine the cause and suitable solution.

    Thank you for your patience.

That's what they say it is.
It sure sounds like the washer was left off, PMB is a very detail oriented company.
I just can't imagine two 150R kick stands having some sort of defect and everyone elses is fine. On the other hand I can imagine two people leaving off a washer.
    My moneys on this :

Okay well, I did remove the Kickit stand about a week ago, here is the most updated photo, I went ahead and added a carbon fiber side guard because I will most likely never be putting this stand back on my bike.

There was no washer placed on the bottom mounting ever. Either way.. I don't believe one tiny washer would have caused this much damage, I know it was not my own negligence, there is a problem with SOME of these stands, I am not saying this is an awful stand, infact I have said that I loved it except for 2 reasons, 1- you have to make sure what type of surface you set your bike on because the stand sits upright too much and can tip over, and 2- the fact that it did cause all this damage to my swingarm.

Contact and work with ProMoto Billet, they are great people to work with.
They have hit the angle the bike is held up right on the nose on every application I've seen them on, so that part must be a foul-up on the big wheel vs. small wheeled versions.
It's pretty clear the washer was on there, now I'm wondering if th big vs. smal wheeled version isn't the culprit on the swingarm contact problem too.
You did clearly state the bike was an 08 small wheeled version in your original post.
So call that number PMB listed, and I look forward to hearing of a satisfactory and speedy resolution, I'll bet you get one. Doug

Two 2008 150R Big Wheels - PMB Stand Rubs

    by MightyWhitey » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:42 pm

I've got TWO 2008 150R Big Wheels for my kids and got them the Kick-it stand from Christmas. I installed both, and the both rub. Not quite to the extent of the original poster, but they rub for sure. The only washer is the one on the bolt that goes through the original triangle stand hole. These stands are trick, they look great, hold the bike up at the right angle, but they both rub pretty bad. For the cost, I'm disappointed.

After collecting data for a couple of weeks and obtaining a few bikes to check fitment, we are still not 100% sure where the problem lies. It looks like a combination of small inconsistencies from Honda coupled with a stand that was very close to the swingarm to begin with.

To address the kickstands with rubbing problems, we have developed a new leg that should eliminate the problem. The kickstand will be tight against the side panel but should clear the swingarm. All of our new stands will come with this new leg. If there are still problems, the only option would be to grind the back of the original kickstand mount on the bike to move the kickstand out.

Those of you with a stand that rubs an unacceptable amount, please contact us and we can replace the leg on your kickstand at no charge to you. Call 1-866-4762 and speak to any of the customer service representatives. Thank you for your patience with this issue.

thanks PMB for the follow up and for the stand up offer to fix those stands with this problem. this is one of the many reasons we enjoy promoting the great products PMB makes.
