    will not idle down

    by boxbuilder » Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:23 pm

2008 150RB I have put a 45 pilot,45 leak jet and done the AP mod but have not tied the cams together? It will idle real high so I turn the idle down wack the throttle it idles high then stalls because the idle is to low.Is this common my last one did not do this.

Where is the fuel screw set at?

"Hanging Idle" as it is known is usually due to a lean pilot circuit.

Do you get decel popping as well?

Try opening the fuel screw up a bit, that should eliminate the issue.

    Idle should be 1700-1900 rpms.

If your free reving it in neutral its the fuel from the squirt being burnt off. Mine does it also. with a 42 pilot.

It should last about 3 seconds or so thats how long the pump squirts. It does not really effect it while riding cause your revs will stay up because your bike is coasting.

Mine idles high when I first rev it also, but I give it a lil time and it's fine. If I lowered the idle it would die just like yours.

I set the fuel screw at 3 turns and it really helped.I had it at 1 and half,it still does it a little but livable. It still has a bog and some decile pop.Has anybody tried raising the needle?Thank you A\S and all others for their input.

I am having the very same problem. Just got the bike home from purchasing it. We are going to start working on the adjustments tomorrow. Any other ideas from anyone about this specific problem?

I'm upto a 45 pilot and it still hangs a bit. Other than that it starts nice and rides well so I guess I'll live with the hanging idle.

90% of the time this is a symptom of a lean pilot circuit. the idle should not hang so i'd start with going up one on the pilot jet until you can adjust with the fuel screw.
